Assassin's Creed. A game that is genuinely "love it or hate it." While the gameplay is smooth and well-polished, it definitely loses some points for being repetitive and just being overall short. Although the game has one of the best controls ever, with a weapon selection pad similar to Left 4 Dead, it gets very boring doing the exact same thing over and over again. For instance, every boss fight I encountered, I did the same things: picked off some guards stealthily, got into a swordfight, then ended up chasing the target around the city for 10 minutes. I did this again and again, the only time this did not happen was the final boss. I won't spoil it here, but it did not end the game very nicely. But let's focus on some of the reasons you should buy this game. You can't deny that combat is great for a game like this; the weapons all are fun and easy to use, and none strike out as an "ultimate weapon." An example of this was how in my personal playthrough, all the weapons served their purpose at any given time. Surrounded by guards? Altiar pulled out his dagger. Hiding in the bushes? The hidden blade makes nice work of those guards. In a duel with one of the elite enemies? Use the longsword. It makes no same fight the same, and kudos to Ubisoft for the controls. Climbing and sprinting while holding down the RT button feels extremely natural, and leaping from roof to roof is a great gameplay move. But, again, the games becomes repetitive. During the last 2 hours of the game, I could barely keep from falling asleep when I was ambushed by guards. With the guarding and combo kill system in place, fighting fells less of a challenge and more of a chore. Though, even with all the negatives I have with this game, I still recommend it to anybody who is interested in it. Is it the best game I've ever played? No. Is it an experience that everyone should try? Yes. Overall, Assassin's Creed is a game that you should definitely research before getting. But, it is still a good game. 7.0 out of 10.
