It's been a long, long time coming for Below.

The project, in development at Ontario indie studio Capybara Games (Super Time Force, Sword & Sworcery), was originally revealed at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference.

It was initially scheduled to ship in 2014, then delayed to 2015, and then again to 2016.

GameSpot's previous hands-on impressions of the game were largely optimistic. GameSpot alumnus Shaun McInnis wrote: "Having finally gotten over my fear of brutal games, I was able to go into this demo with open eyes and was rewarded immensely for it."

Below is a timed Xbox One console exclusive that will also launch on PC. Its music comes from Jim Guthrie. Some new screenshots have also been released; you can see them in the gallery below.

Too dark (is it full 3D, BTW?). I like the concept a lot, however I don't understand how is that people hold Capy (they have their own "pet name" even!) in such high regard. Never liked any of their games that much.

Announce the return of Summer of Arcade at E3. Have this, Cuphead, and 2 other indies (sadly Tacoma got delayed) make their debut. One each week. Everybody wins. I think....

Finally! Been waiting forever for this one... Frustrating with no sign of a release window until now. It's looking great. I love Capy games, can't wait.

Hmm. I'm not a huge fan of games that use isometric projection. I find that losing too many visual cues about objects' distance from the viewpoint can occasionally be problematic, even in the highly rated "Bastion". Still, I must admit that this game does look very atmospheric. I hope it does well.
