Microsoft revealed that the Xbox Mastercard is now available to everyone in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. The card was first introduced in September 2023 to Xbox Insiders.

With its availability expanded, there are now new perks that come with the credit card, including:

  • When $7,000 or more is spent within first 12 months of opening the card account, both new and existing cardmembers can earn two three-month of Game Pass Ultimate to gift to friends or family.
  • Owners are upgraded to Level 2 of Microsoft Rewards, and will start earning rewards faster with the credit card
  • New Spotify Premium Individual users earn three free months on the service, applicable to both new and existing cardholders. Boost the volume with three free months of Spotify Premium Individual for new and existing cardmembers,
  • Cardholders get access to Barclays Money Basics

Those who use the Xbox credit card will earn five times as many points on eligible products on the Microsoft store, and three times as many points on eligible streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, along with dining delivery services like GrubHub and DoorDash.

The card has no annual fees and its existing perks include 5,000 points ($50) and three months of Game Pass Ultimate for new members after the first purchase. Cardholders can also access their own credit score for free and have $0 fraud liability protection.

Microsoft isn't the only company to roll out its own credit card. Sony launched its own PlayStation credit card with Visa all the way back in 2008.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's specifically targeted at young gamers for whom this could very well be their first credit card and wouldn't pay attention to those T&C's. Some adults too I'd imagine.

I, like most gamers, was interested in a credit card with the Xbox logo. But it's absolutely terrible deal if you look into it. Even the most basic credit cards out there will offer 1% cash back, and after $7,000 you'll have enough to buy Game Pass or anything else with the money. The interest rate is about 30% and there are many fees. Oh, but you get a free 3 months of Spotify! I can't find that anywhere else! /s

These 'deals' are laughable. I love games as much as the next person, but you have to spend so much money to get the 'perks', which are too specific, anyone can do better. You may not be able to secure a Merrill Lynch account to get some great incentives, but this is dumb. Even Wells Fargo offers better deals than this.

Getting a card with 1% cash back is better than this, and cash back deals aren't even that great.

Thanks to everyone in the comments section for asking good questions and providing useful information, like a good reporter does!

"access their credit score for free"

Seriously, others charge money for the score?

@simonthekid7: I use three different financial institutions. None of them charge me. Nor does checking the FICO affect the score itself... which can happen if you don't access it correctly.

Wow mr Yang, you mention all the perks but not a single word about late fees or interest rates. It sounds like an advertisement for the thing almost.

My experience with them are, the lower the annual fees are, the higher the interest rates.

Some perks might be nice though. But spending 7000 dollars just to get about 40 dollars worth of Xbox Game pass (3 months) is not awesome.

@simonthekid7: Even worse, the Game Passes are for "friends and family", so I reckon that means you can't redeem them for yourself?

@chronogos: It's worse than that. The 3 month game passes are for NEW Game Pass members, not existing ones. So you have to find a friend or family member who does not have Game Pass Ultimate and are willing to sign up and THEN they can get those first 3 months free.... :(
