As if the universe wasn't already dangerous enough, Enlight Software announced today that X2: The Threat has shipped to stores.

Like its predecessor, X: Beyond the Frontier, X2 is set in the far future, when Terran civilization has expanded into a busy galactic empire. Its gameplay covers two fields, space combat and interstellar trading in some 150 star systems. The "threat" of the title is the Khaak, an aggressive alien race bent on cleansing the galaxy of humanity. GameSpot's preview has further data on the game.

X2 is rated 'T' for teen, retails for $39.99, and is only available for PCs. Both X and X2 were developed by German studio EgoSoft.
