Turok And Turok 2 Remasters Coming To Xbox One

Talk about a blast from the past.

If Monster Hunter is getting a little too realistic, it might be time to look at an older title for your giant lizard hunting needs. Remasters of 1997's Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and 1998's Turok 2: Seeds of Evil are launching on Xbox One on March 2.

Turok: Dinosaur hunter was a Nintendo 64 and Windows title meant to be an adaptation of the comic book series published by Acclaim Comics. Players assume the role of traveling warrior Turok on a quest to find the pieces of the Chronoscepter. And of course, battle dinosaurs, poachers, and more along the way.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Turok And Turok 2 Remasters Coming To Xbox One

Its sequel, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, was also an Nintendo 64 title, but also saw a port on Windows and Game Boy Color. Like its predecessor, it was also a dino-slaying FPS. There are six different levels with different missions connected to a hub area; this iteration also has multiplayer.

The two remasters are coming from Nightdive Studios, the same studio behind the System Shock remaster. The team behind that remaster is currently on hiatus to "reassess" its vision.

This isn't the first time a Turok remaster have been released either. Back in 2015, Nightdive remastered both titles for PC, featuring enhanced graphics. It's unclear what changes are being made for the Xbox One remasters of the two Turok games, or if they're any different from the previously release PC remasters.

Sweet, I actually enjoyed the later Turok games too, as “bad” as they were.

Nightdive did a great job with these remasters on the pc. Glad these legendary games are getting some exposure on a new gen.

T2 is one of my top 5 of all time. They're still tons of fun to play, and it's really pretty impressive how ahead of their time these games were.

I wish this would be packaged with the Turok Arena "expansion" and online play enabled (not that many people would play it, but I'd find someone to play with me). The chicken/monkey mode is one of my favorite competitive arena shooter gametypes of all time.

I played the original trilogy so many times back on the N64 (even bought the ram expansion pack just for T2). NTHGTHDGDCRTDTRK is still engraved in my memory to this day because of T1.

@califortunefade: I believe T2 does have multiplayer. The Xbox page said "1-16 online".

But they aren't even upgrading any of the crappy old textures so it's not a true remaster. Honestly the Turok games aren't really that good compared to most other well known FPS games around and before its time, and when it came to the console versions FPS games like Perfect Dark were much better. Turok really didn't age well, the only thing which really stands out is the music.

@J_P-: I know, i was just saying Sony really tries with their remasters and remakes instead of just basically porting games with few adjustments.

@dudebropartyyo: Just throwing this out there, they had mostly nothing to do with the Crash collection other than funding it in exchange for a "no Xbox port" exclusivity.

Then you can look at The Last of Us, Uncharted collection and God of War 3 ports which essentially were just ports with a few adjustments.

Shadow of the Colossus was probably their biggest remaster but it would have to be considering they're selling the game to us a third time. Even then the changes that happened to that game are a mixed bag. Some times the lighting, textures and particle effects actually somehow look worse than the original PS2's. I really hope this MediEvil remaster works out. Then maybe we'll finally get a remaster of Legend of Dragoon which could lead in to a sequel. This is Sony though and they've disappointed and dashed my hopes and dreams a sunder a many a time.

@mcnichoj: Those games didnt need to many adjustments, they only came out on PS3. Well for Sony to fund something they want results and demand results. That was my point

I spent so many hours playing these on Nintendo 64 in the late 90's. I bought the first remaster on GOG last year and waiting for T2 to go on sale again. I hope plenty will buy these!

I want to get this on the XboxOneX. However, I will not be paying $20 each. I will wait for Black Friday, and catch it at least half off.

I wish they would add Turok 3, and then reboot the franchise completely, disregarding (story wise) the reboot that happened in mid-late 2000s.

Doom got a fantastic reboot in 2016 (one of the best new soundtracks too), which we are sure to see a follow up on. Wolfenstein also got a great streak going in 2017. Shadow Warrior Reboots have done fairly well past few years. I fully expect to see either a new reboot of Turok, Duke Nukem, Blood, or Quake (Actual Quake, not champions/arena/tournament). I don't it will be all of them, but I fully expect a couple of them to pop up over the next couple years.

@dudebropartyyo: Why is that? Is it because of better performance? I assume on such old games the X1X could handle it just as well as any PC especially for just 1080p. I expect the graphics to be the same as the new remasters maxed out at 1080p on PC.

Is controller support shoddy? We plan on playing it with an Xbox controller unless its support is rubbish.

I did Doom on PC, and we Co-op'd Shadow Warrior 2 on PC. We played through Wolfenstein 2 on X1X with no issues looked pretty good, ran pretty good. (I expect better results on X1X enhancements over 2018, but that one wasn't bad) We are about to do The Surge on X1X after a bit. (got it on sale for $15) I am starting to ramble, but why would the recommendation for pc be any better? Were these Turok games ever a co-op?

Thats fair enough tho, we all have different preferences :)

A few days before Christmas in 1998 I bought Turok 2 and Ocarina of Time. This was the year I graduated from high school and I was working and had my own money for the first time. It was also the first time I can remember not caring about what presents I was getting. I stayed up late on Christmas Eve playing them on a tiny 9" TV. Good memories. I can't believe that was almost twenty years ago.

They could totally remake the Turok series and with a decent story in there too. It started as a comic so there has to be more there.

@davillain-: If so then than go buy the actual originals and a N64 console, thats how you respect retro style. If you gonna do a remaster do it properly, Sony knows how its done :)

The purpose of a remaster is to improve everything that can be improved without a total remake

@dudebropartyyo: I still play my N64 and my most played Retro game I still love is Goldeneye :)

I still own Turok on N64, but at the same time, the remastered was well done to fix the problem the N64 suffer. Not saying I don't agree with you by playing on the N64, but the PC version is as good of a retro as it should be.

@davillain-: But remasters generally fix up old graphics and these ones aren't even trying to. Turok's graphics look worse than most other well known old FPS games from around and before its time.

@sellingthings: The N64 Turok was fun of it's time, but it didn't aged well at all due to N64 hardware at it's time. But the remastered PC version made it all better with KB/M support and totally worth picking up Steam version. It may not have aged well on PC, but totally miles better then N64 to say the least. I recommend buying just Seeds of Evil since it's the best Turok game.

@sellingthings: You can use a controller on the Steam version. You can wait for the One version, but what's on PC is already there with what you want. I am not sure about the $20 price for each game individually, but I do (did?) want two because my PC can't run the game very well at max settings. It's not a PC gaming system. I don't actually remember playing two with a controller though... Hmm.

I know you can use a controller in it but I can't say how good it is. I was never as big a fan of the first Turok, but Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is one of my favorite N64 games. I agree with everyone about the controls though: they were abysmal. I am not a fan of the N64 controller, and it made it even worse that the Y axis was inverted, and look spring couldn't be turned off in these games.

Lastly, I know Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion was never on PC, but I wish that was remastered as well to round out the trilogy.

I already got these remasters on Steam when they were on sale and paid half price then what the Xbox One versions are worth. If you want my advice, just buy Turok 2: Seeds of Evil because it's the best Turok game back then and still kind is, if your a Retro gaming fan like me. That said, playing these remasters on PC with Keyboard/Mouse made it sooo much better then N64 couldn't do with it's wacky controller.
