UK-based Nicely Crafted Entertainment has today released a new client for Time of Defiance, its massively multiplayer real-time strategy game set on thousands of islands floating in space.

The new client features numerous enhancements on the previous version, the most obvious of which are improved visuals and the introduction of a newspaper that will keep players up to date with in-game events four times in each game.

Other improvements made with the release of the new client--many of which have come about as a result of suggestions from existing players--include access to new buildings and technology from the mysterious Shadoo Alliance, a new super transport vehicle capable of shifting massive quantities of resources, and the introduction of a traveling salesman character who can sell any player who tracks him down a number of exclusive items, including a new quantum bomb weapon.

"The Time of Defiance community is active and vibrant and we're delighted to be able to incorporate some of their hopes and wishes in the latest version of the client," said Ben Simpson, creative director, Nicely Crafted Entertainment. "That's what makes our game unique--we can update it frequently with the minimum of fuss. Our whole client is much, much less than most games' patches--despite the fact that we're using full 3D visuals. The strategies that have been developed since Time of Defiance's launch have proved to us what a unique game this is. These new additions will really throw the cat among the pigeons, and there is more to come!"

Existing players wishing to download the new client can do so at the official Time of Defiance Web site, where a free five-day trial version of the game is also available. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the game.
