These Analysts Expect The Switch 2 Will Launch For $400

More than a current-gen Switch, but a whole lot less than a handheld gaming PC.

More details on the Switch 2 are set to be revealed in an April livestream, and one of the key selling points--quite literally--will be its official price. With recent geopolitical events and several other economic factors to consider, industry analysts have offered insight into how much the Switch 2 might cost.

Speaking to CNBC, MST Financial senior research analyst David Gibson predicted a $400 price point based on Nintendo securing a better supply chain for the console and strong third-party support. Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games Inc. (via IGN) also believes that $400 will be the right price for the Switch 2, and Circana's analysts Mat Piscatella and Piers Harding-Rolls explained to IGN that they also have that price in their projections.

Both Harding-Rolls and Piscatella suggested that Nintendo could sell the Switch 2 for $500, noting that early adopters would be willing to pay that much for the console and that Nintendo could always lower the price in the future.

MIDiA's Rhys Elliot did note that if the Switch 2 is in short supply at launch--something Nintendo is aiming to avoid--the price could start at $500. Manufacturing costs could also play a role in the Switch 2 having a high launch price, as Nintendo's business currently relies heavily on generating profit from Switch console sales. Overall, Elliot does expect $400 to be the sweet spot for the Switch 2 when it eventually arrives.

At $400, the Switch 2 launch price will be considerably higher than the current Switch console's $300 price tag, while the OLED model retails for $350. At the same time, this does make it more affordable than most handheld gaming PCs, as depending on the model and its configuration, they typically start from around $500 and can be as expensive as $800.

The Switch 2 could also be good value for money thanks to backwards compatibility, and with games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends Z-A sharing the same 2025 launch window, analysts are predicting that it'll be a big seller for Nintendo this year.

$400 for a less-impressive LCD display. $500 for an OLED display and more storage.

Of course, they could launch without an OLED model at all, but I think it would be smart to have an option for current Switch OLED owners which doesn't feel like a downgrade for them, right out of the gate

400 bucks sounds a bit on the low side. I would expect it to be $500, minimum. If it's lower than that, one has to wonder what cheap-ass components they're using in it, or, Nintendo are prepared to take a hit & make a loss, just to get some numbers out there. On paper, it should sell like hot cakes because, economy of scale etc, so it's feasible.

@ecurl143: All those are good points but what about the tech behind the thing? They keep saying that the Switch 2 might have the power of a PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro came out almost 15 years ago. Yes, that will be a hard pill to swallow to pay $500 for something that might have the power of something that came out 15 years ago. The key word here is the (MIGHT) be as powerful as a PS4 Pro. This thing might not even have the power of a PS4 Pro.

So, 500 bucks, I don't think so. For what you are getting, I think is $400

@angrycreep: The PS4 Pro, came out in 2016, so 9 years old but yeah, that might as well be 15 years ago in tech terms, so your point remains that who would want to pay a premium for aging tech? Maybe 400 bucks is that sweet spot but with compromises. That bothers me.

It really hacks me off that Nintendo doesn't keep up with the times, from a hardware perspective & I keep hearing people say, well Nintendo don't care about specs, it's all about the games etc but I just wish they wouldn't launch hardware that's out of date, the minute it's released. Games? I dunno, is there anything that amazing releasing with the Switch 2? Is a release game that significant these days? I don't think so personally. I just want something that's a little future proof. I'm currently playing Diablo 4 on my Steam Deck & it runs that flawlessly at high settings. No adjustments, nothing. It just works straight out of the box. That thing is now 3 years old & can literally run anything that's thrown at it. The steam library is gargantuan, so I anticipate my Steam Deck will provide me with top shelf gaming experiences for the next 3 years & beyond. Now, that, is value for money. I paid £459.00 for my 256GB SD on release & that was absolutely fine, given what was under the hood at the time.

I'm still keeping a close eye on specs for the Switch 2, although I won't be buying one personally. Be interesting to make some comparisons with the SD on release. It should be interesting.

Honestly don’t care about the price. I’m a Nintendo whore, and I will buy any console they put out. I live in a small Alaskan town, and I was the first person in town to snag a Switch, a Wii U, a 3DS and in the top 20 first people to snag a Wii. There is only one place in town that sells consoles on launch day, a Fred Meyer, and I’m always out waiting in line. Can’t wait for this!

I will overlook it as I am satisfied with my old OLED Switch, and I have my Steam Deck.

I hope the game prices will come down and go on sale more often. Nintendo should also bring back the Player's Choice label that they used to have, which offered best selling games at a discount.
