The Outer Worlds 2, from Microsoft-owned Obsidian Games, has been revealed that the Xbox showcase at E3 2021. Outside of a logo reveal and some sweeping shots that may or may not be from the game itself, few other details were revealed.

The Outer Worlds 2 is set to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC and will be coming to Xbox Games Pass at launch as is custom with first-party Microsoft titles.

The Outer Worlds 2 trailer took aim at games that used E3 time to not really share information and instead just tease a logo, which is essentially what this reveal is all about, too. The Outer Worlds 2 is likely to be an Xbox and PC exclusive given Obsidian's purchase by Microsoft, which took place after the original game was announced. The Outer Worlds did launch on Xbox Games Pass too, but also launched on PS4 at the time.

I wasted my time buying the first game since now I can't play the second game due to it being on a console I don't own.

@saint-boot7b: Not necessarily, especially if you enjoyed the first one. Many games that have spawned sequels started out multi-platform and then became exclusive. Also Microsoft’s main goal is to get Gamepass on as many devices as possible. And while I highly doubt PS would ever let it be compatible with their systems, game pass is planned to be compatible with XCloud on multiple browsers and even smart TVs. So you might very well be able to play the sequel without having to buy an entire console. But I get that it’s a bit inconvenient.

I doubt this is coming any time soon. Obsidian's plate is rather full at the moment. Don't forget they have an ES level game in full development.

@KotomineKirei: And Grounded. The only studios that have the manpower to work on three major titles at once are monsters like Bethesda and publishing studios like Squeenix or Capcom, and I highly doubt Bethesda is willing to pull resources off their own major projects to develop what is essentially a competitor even if it is within their own umbrella (just because MS owns both doesn't mean Bethesda will suddenly be okay with losing market share; remember, their performance bonuses are based on the sale of their own games, not someone else's), although I wouldn't be surprised if MS funded a third team for Obsidian so that they can make a AAA level Outer Worlds so they can keep churning out ES-like titles every year, but that's gotta be at least 3 years away.

@Barighm:

I do not know how market share works, but if helping other developers negatively affects that, then why do developers do that?

For example, The Minish Cap was developed by Nintendo and Capcom, and Three Houses was developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo.
