The Last Of Us 2 Designer Moves To Microsoft's Outer Worlds Studio, Obsidian

One of the developers of The Last of Us: Part II has left the Sony-owned Naughty Dog to join Microsoft's Obsidian. Jordan Denton, who was an associate sound designer on The Last of Us: Part II, is joining The Outer Worlds developer as an audio designer.

Both Naughty Dog (Santa Monica) and Obsidian (Irvine) are based in southern California. "I'm stoked to be a part of the studio and the audio team," Denton said.

Microsoft acquired Obsidian in 2018 as part of the company's bigger push into acquiring and starting more first-party development studios. Obsidian is just the latest studio that Microsoft operates in southern California, as the company also runs The Initiative in Santa Monica.

Obsidian's next game is the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids-meets-Rust survival game Grounded, which launches later this summer. After that, the studio has no announced projects.

One of them could be a new Outer Worlds game, as Microsoft believes the game could become a franchise. Whatever the case, it's exciting to think about what Obsidian might do next now that it has the resources and financial backing of one of the largest companies on the planet.

As for The Last of Us: Part II, it's scheduled for release exclusively on PS4 on June 19. The Last of Us: Part II reviews will start to appear beginning on June 12, so keep checking back with GameSpot soon for more.

The last of us 2 is politically driven with a terrible story that ruining it for the fans of the last of us 1.

I hope more ppl leave this studio and Neil learns a lesson not to piss on your fans.

An associate sound designer is normally a freelance position, So the job he was taken on for is finished so he moves on, If hes still an associate at Obsidian its likely in a few years time he will move on again.

Yeah I would want to know if the director or head writer or even associate writer or head of production design had left. And while nearly everyone at Naughty Dog is like top tier talent, associate sound designer is not news.
