TGS 2001 Fall: New Genma Onimusha details

Capcom's Xbox game makes an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show.

Capcom has provided us with new information regarding some changes in the combat mechanics for the Xbox version of Genma Onimusha. During combat, each weapon has its own special attacks that make use of elements such as fire, wind, and lightning. As players absorb more souls, their swords level up and increase in strength in their special attacks. In this Xbox version, even if players have leveled up their weapons, what determines the strength of the special attack is the length of time they hold down the attack button. For example, if players want to execute the level three lightning-sword attack, they have to hold down the attack button longer. Anything shorter will execute either a level two or level one attack. Another change, which we've previously mentioned, is the enemies' ability to absorb souls, just like the main character.

Genma Onimusha for the Xbox will hit store shelves in Japan at the console's launch on February 22, 2002. We'll have hands-on impressions shortly.
