Developers Re-Logic and Engine Software have revealed a new game which expands upon their action-sandbox game Terraria, first released in 2011. The new game is titled Terraria: Otherworld and is set an in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe. It is presented as a "novel take on the Terraria experience."

Terraria: Otherworld places players into a formerly unspoiled world which has been "overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself." Players must try to restore this world to its original condition. The game will combine sandbox elements with elements from the role-playing and strategy genres.

No mention of platforms or release date was made, though the original Terraria launched on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, Mac, and mobile devices. The developers will be showcasing the game at this year's Game Developer's Conference, so stay tuned to GameSpot for more possible updates from the show.

I vastly prefer the MORE RPG stuff and less "just collect resources and play legos" stuff.

As long as the console port is made by a competent developer. 1.2 was terrible on my PS3 version and literally broke my game for months. It wasn't a terrible loss as I had the PC version too but it was still worrying.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Starbound has nothing to do with this. While there was a similar person working on Terraria on the Starbound team, they are mutually exclusive products dev team wise. As for Starbound, it's updating still. They just had a huge one.. but they work so slowly I just stopped being excited for it.

Day one buy for me, I have put in about 570hr so far into Terraria on pc and a few hours into the ps4 version since I just got it. I like the interface so far and graphical improvements, if it plays anything like Terraria with new bosses I will be extremely happy.

I have gotten hundred of hours of entertainment on both PC and 360 from Terraria, and It was only ten bucks. Meanwhile, people are trying to defend The Order's 5 hour length at $60 as "acceptable".

Can't wait for the new Terraria!

I am a little bit disappointed that with all the success they went with the pixel aesthetic again. I was kinda hoping for a 3D or at least a clean 2D look, but I guess it was a deliberate choice. Terraria was still a fun game. A lot better than Minecraft and the like for me. I will probably buy this next one too.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's barely like minecraft.

The point is to explore the MASSIVE world and during the process mine resources to create bigger and better weapons & armor.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> As someone who loves building in Terraria I can confirm that theres wayyyyyy more to do in this game than just building like Minecraft does. I doubt there are a dozen of bosses to defeat in Minecraft, a hardmode you unlock after defeating the Wall of Flesh which is the last Normal mode, which then adds tons of different, new enemies, opens extra dungeons and new types of minerals/ore for you to mine for even better weapons/armor and decorations.

Well as someone who's played a lot of Minecraft I can say nothing you just told me sounds so different, and saying all you do in Minecraft is build is far from the truth. Sure they're different aesthetically, and I'm sure they share quite a few other differences, but the main goal (if you can call it that) in both games is to explore a vast world, mine resources to make weapons/armor/tools to mine better resources which allows you to make even better weapons/armor/tools. Both games have several enemy types, both have day/night cycles, both have dungeons, both are procedurally generated, both have boss type enemies, neither have a real "end game", etc, etc. Minecraft also has three world types: The Overworld, The Nether, and The End. It's a constantly evolving game, adding new enemy types, mechanics, resources, naturally occurring formations and structures, animals, abilities, and game modes on a consistent basis -- I doubt Terraia has more to offer than Minecraft in terms of content. You can be a farmer, an adventurer, trade goods with NPCs, tame wild animals to do your bidding, travel to other dimensions by means of portals, craft an insane amount things, create fully functional mechanical masterpieces that actually require circuitry and knowledge of routing electricity, cook a wide assortment of food, and yes ... you can build pretty much whatever you can imagine -- but this list goes on, and I imagine it trumps the amount of things you can do in Terraria. Not saying which game is better, just that Minecraft is bigger and offers a substantial amount of content for those who would take full advantage of it.

Hopefully the Re-Logic team can get a full release version out instead of doing early access like every other Terraria-like that's popped up to ride the coat-tails of the original Terraria.
