Street Fighter 5 April Update: Guile Gameplay Details, Screenshots

Classic Street Fighter character set to make his return soon.

Guile has been confirmed as the next Street Fighter 5 DLC character. Images of the Sonic Boom-throwing American hero were revealed on the Capcom Unity blog, which also provided some gameplay information.

No Caption Provided

"Guile retains his ability to dominate both the ground and air with his solid normal attacks and special moves, such as Sonic Boom and Somersault Kick," it says.

His new abilities include "a crouch walk state called Faultless Move which allows him to keep his charge while moving forward, giving him even more options in his kit to keep his opponents in line."

His V-Skill is called the Sonic Blade and during it Guile "spins up sonic energy to create a Sonic Blade which acts as a stationary projectile that can also juice up his Sonic Booms."

Capcom adds: "Sonic Blade can really help Guile pressure opponents on their wake-up or help him win projectile battles as it increases Sonic Boom durability."

His V-Trigger, meanwhile, is called Solid Puncher and lets him throw continuous Sonic Booms. Each attack button launches a Sonic Boom at a different speed, creating the opportunity to manipulate enemy movements. They can also be used as combo extenders.

His Critical Art, Sonic Hurricane, is "Guile's most devastating attack." During it Guile "powers up and hits his opponent with a massive, multi-hit Sonic Boom. This Critical Art receives a damage and range boost while his V-Trigger is active."

Also shown in the screenshots is the first DLC stage, which is Guile's Air Force Base. This will be available in the shop for 70,000 Fight Money. Season pass holders will get it for free.

Finally, Capcom has detailed its Rage Quit system, which will "identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches and will lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time."

"Players who have been identified as abusing the system will receive an in-game message notifying them they have been locked out of matchmaking.

Street Fighter 5's March update included the introduction of Alex, the first post-launch DLC character. Since Street Fighter 5's real-money currency, Zenny, wasn't part of the update, Alex was made available at no cost for a trial period.

"This also will apply to any future DLC character that releases prior to the Zenny shop launching," Capcom explained. "Once the Zenny shop launches, the free trial for any DLC characters that released prior to the Zenny shop opening will end, and players will need to either use Fight Money, Zenny, or the Season Pass to access those characters."

Once the Zenny shop launches the character will no longer be playable unless he is purchased. When the Zenny shop launches, Alex--and other DLC characters--will be cost 100,000 Fight Money (Street Fighter V's in-game currency), while character costumes will be 40,000 each.

You already pay them $60 and they still wouldn't give you that character you could already play? Oh Capcom what will you think of next.

i honestly think if the game was only gonna recieve a small amount of content and the majority of its content is only obtainable via grinding or money the base game should have been cheaper to bring in more people. If the game had been $20-$30 i can guarantee not only would more people have bought it (or be inclined to by it) but also fans wouldnt be nearly as upset.

SO basically, new stage 70 000, characters 100 000 and costume 40 000... while I am having 600 000 only after challenges, survival and story...

at 50 a match, it takes 1400 wins for a stage, 2000 wins for a new character and 800 wins for a costume... CMON CRAPCOM! And I paid 70$ for a beta game... I am soooo happppppyyyy.....

Still angry that ranked match wins only get you 50 fight money. Should have known Capcom would pull crap like this. I guess they offset that somewhat by giving you absurd amounts of fight money for story mode completions that are over way too fast. This game really came out way too soon but is great when you play online. It will be interesting to see if the new and improved story mode that comes out in June will be anywhere near the cinematics of Mortal Kombat X.

Guile- "Sonic Boom! Sonic Hurricane! Nash! Time for us to go home! And be a friend again!"

Nash - "...How I miss you so much..."

*Guile brofists Nash and leaves with him*

So Guile is a TSA gate-agent now?

Awesome. Can't wait to see how the changes are utilized. This move forward with a charge thing could make for some very interesting gameplay.

classic stage is classic. And pricey! wonder if they will ever be "on sale."

@ECH71:

Sorry. Poison is not in this game. If Ono announces about him/her, he/she would be in. But... not this today. Not even in million years.

SFV is already "classic". As in, a distant vague memory that people enjoy but no one plays except for the absolute hardcore basement dwellers.

This game needs some kind of reboot to be relevant again

@Iemander: They just had a reboot a game ago....a reboot isn't what the series needs, but a stable launch. SFV isn't selling as well as SV4 because it came out with too few features.

@cajunstrike: Most fighting game fans are Asians in Asia and most don't buy an XB1.

@chaosbrigade: Actually, Xbox 360 sales for the initial Street Fighter IV release were only slightly lower than that for the PlayStation 3 version. One would guess that if released on Xbox One, Street Fighter V would have nearly doubled sales as the vast majority of buyers are actually in the North America market, not Asia. In fact, European sales alone represented nearly twice that of the Japanese market.

@cajunstrike: This is not Xbox vs PlayStation, this is a current gen scenario where every game that is not a dudebro shooter gets outsold on the Xone by the PS4 version....

@metallinatus: Japanese sales only represent roughly 10% of Street Fighter V's market. So while the PlayStation 4 is clearly selling better in Japan (and Europe), an Xbox One release would have almost certainly yielded significantly better sales globally. In fact, one could presume that an Xbox One release in North America alone would have fared far better than PlayStation 4 sales in Japan as North America is by and large the biggest market.
