Star Citizen Now Selling $48,000 Bundle That Includes Every Ship

Get your wallets ready.

Cloud Imperium Games is selling a new DLC bundle for the spacefaring game Star Citizen that will set you back the cost of a fancy new real-life car. The Legatus 2953 bundle, as it's called, includes every ship in the game, along with a variety of extras. The cost? $48,000.

The bundle comes with more than 175 ships from every one of the game's many manufacturers, which the developer said should allow players to "forge a lasting legacy, leading humanity towards a brighter future." It includes weapons and cosmetics as well. Nearly all of the content is available now, except for the Karna Ascension rifle, which will be released sometime during Q1 2024 (January-March).

Cloud Imperium Games has sold these type of bundles since 2018. As PC Gamer reminds us, the first iteration of the bundle was priced at $27,000, and now it's scaled to almost double that. The site also reported that players need to have already spent $1,000 on Star Citizen to buy the Legatus 2953 bundle. That's because the premium offering is apparently only available to people in the Chairman's Club.

Star Citizen alpha 3.21, the newest version of the game, is available now on PC. The developer is releasing the game on an ongoing basis, with more features and functionality introduced over time. A standalone single-player game, Squadron 42, is also in development but doesn't have a release date yet. The game recently crossed a major development milestone, becoming feature-complete in October 2023.

Cloud Imperium Games has raised more than $650 million since 2012 in crowdfunding from fans. The developer's public funding page shows that people regularly contribute more than $100,000 daily.

The lengthy wait for Squadron 42 and the finished version of Star Citizen has upset some people. Cloud Imperium Games has said the huge amount of money from crowdfunding has led to an increase in scope and a lengthier development process than originally planned.

I'm so glad the gaming community rejected funding schemes like this. It's insane. We play for in-game assets, not pay for them. Where is the fun in that?!

They must have some really rich and addicted players to even consider putting out a bundle like this.

What makes this really sad is that instead of people demanding proper value of goods (ie paying a fair exchange for a worthwhile experience), they are happy to pay stupid amounts of money for content that is effectively worthless. The game is still stuck in early release (alpha, beta, whatever) and this content could easily be rendered obsolete by a patch or core code change.

I was an original backer that put 1200$ into this game (i hate to admit). However, I was still lucky to get the Constellation physical die-cast model. Sold all my ships for 40% loss, however, sold the Consteation physical model for 1900$ due to its ultra rarity. Ended up making twice as much money at the end!! Lucky me, but I’m never doing this crap again.

The written psychological profile of the top tier Star Citizen crowd funders would be compelling reading. I would suspect a psychological analysis would reveal they are fringe social outcasts, who thrive in dark places (parents basements) and if they do work, they sustain themselves with junk food.

They console themselves in the deluded belief that spending $48k on a game is justified and those who do not align with their unorthodox way of thinking are envious and bitter.

Of course Cloud Imperium management relies on these sub humans to continue funding Star Citizen to keep them living a wealthy and prosperous lifestyle (and probably laughing at how truly gullible and easily influenced some human beings really are).

@ember_to_flame: It's sad because I was one of the ones that invested about 3 grand in the game back in 2012. literally 12 years later and I have nothing to show for it. I'm considering selling my ships as they will go for 3 times that amount. Because as you said as long as people keep throwing money at the game it will never release.

@alex33x: Ouch! Yeah that gotta sting, I mean the idea of the game is great, it is almost everything one would want in a game but a real release this life time seems unrealistic. But maybe the value increase on your ships after these bundles goes out? Could be a good time to sell if that is the case.

@alex33x: hate to disappoint you but they won’t. If you are lucky you’ll sell them at 50% loss and you best be sure you sell it to the right person.

Holy crap! You can buy an entire real-life home in some lesser expensive cities in the U.S. with that kind of scratch. Some people just don't deserve the money they have. Incredible.

It has been a while since I heard from Scam Citizen. Is it out yet? Of course not. Is it finding new ways to milk gullible idiots? You betcha.

The fact that they are selling packages for $48K indicates to me they sold enough $27K packages to make it seem viable.

Some people just have money to burn.... damn, I need a new career.

At this point, I can't even be mad at CIG. They've obviously got an audience that's dumb enough to buy anything so why wouldn't they take them for a ride?

This is absolutely ridiculous. Why are people still giving money to this? The game has been a work in progress for how long now? People need to stop supporting this BS.

So, did the previous (merely) $27k package have later ships added to it retroactively?
