Sniper Elite Series Has Several Projects In Development

Yes, four of them.

7 Comments

Rebellion announced not one or two, but four Sniper Elite projects today, across a variety of platforms including virtual reality. The centerpiece of the announcement is the next major Sniper Elite game, though the announcement shies away from calling it "Sniper Elite 5" by name. However, Rebellion acknowledges that whatever it's ultimately to be called, it's in development.

The other three games include two resurrected classics and one emerging technology. Sniper Elite V2 Remastered will bring the 2012 game to current platforms with updated visuals and new features, including 4K resolution and HDR support, a photo mode, an expanded multiplayer mode, and all of its add-on content. It will hit PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch this year.

Similarly, Sniper Elite 3 Ultimate Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch this year, and also includes the full suite of add-on content. It sports a new local wireless multiplayer mode and motion controls.

Finally, a standalone Sniper Elite VR game is in the works in collaboration with the UK studio Just Add Water. More details on that project will be shown later this year. We won't hear anything new about the mainline Sniper Elite game until 2020.

"Sniper Elite V2 is best when you are the one setting the pace," critic Chris Watters wrote in GameSpot's review for the original release. "Lining up good shots and laying low dozens of foes is a lot of fun, though it can get tiresome to fight your way through yet another area newly populated with thick-headed rifle fodder. Your tolerance for transparently game-y elements will go a long way toward determining how much you enjoy this glorified shooting gallery, but if you relish a good headshot, Sniper Elite V2 has got you covered."

I really enjoyed V2 on the Wii U. I'll have to get the third on the Switch. Motion aiming really helps.

This series is really good, I'm glad to see they are continuing forward with it. V2 and 4 were simply great.

@1947gamer: That would be cool, it'd also be cool to see him in battles a sniper special ops sniper wouldn't have been in, like Normandy. Taking out some opponents manning turrets to help infantry move forward would be cool, maybe parachute and infiltrate from behind. I dunno, would be cool though.

They should just remaster the original from PS2. That was the best one of them all.

@jagdedge124:

V2 is kind of a remake of that game, if memory serves.
