Shippin' Out: Jan. 23-29: Dead Space 2, Two Worlds II

New release slate led by Visceral Games' frightening third-person action game and SouthPeak's RPG; Lord of Arcana and Monday Night Combat for PC also out.

Last week Sackboy made a lauded return to the gaming scene in Little Big Planet 2, but this week's theme is focused more on horrid death.

Leading the week is Visceral Games' Dead Space 2 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game follows engineer protagonist Isaac Clarke, who fights snarling alien creatures on the Sprawl, an abandoned civilian space station anchored on one of Saturn's moons. The game will be available both in a standard $60 form and in a limited-edition $80 top-tier pack that bundles a replica plasma cutter, along with other goodies.

Isaac brings the pain to the necromorphs this week.
Isaac brings the pain to the necromorphs this week.

Also out this week is SouthPeak's Two Worlds II for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. First announced as an expansion pack in 2007, Two Worlds II was initially scheduled for an early 2008 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. However, the fantasy role-playing game then picked up full sequel status, as well as multiple delays. The PC version is due out in February.

Two Worlds II picks back up with the original's hero, after having languished in prison for a number of years. Gamers find themselves first confronting the nefarious Gandahar (the villain from the original), before setting out on a new quest to save the world. The game also includes new cooperative multiplayer modes, where players can work together to build cities or team up to undertake a dozen story-driven quests.

On-the-go gamers looking for something new this week can pick up Square Enix's Lord of Arcana for the PSP. Primed to debut as a download via the PlayStation Network and at brick and mortar retail, the title revolves around a powerful stone called Arcana, said to be "the source of all order in the world."

Only the most powerful can lay claim to the stone, so players will need to hunt scores of monsters--which the publisher says have been designed by "world-renowned artists"--if they want to discover its secrets.

Third-person shooter fans can download Monday Night Combat for the PC this Monday. Originally pegged to be released last week, the game was pushed back a week by developer Uber Entertainment for additional polish. The title was released on Xbox Live Arcade over the summer as part of Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion, but come Monday it will no longer be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Monday Night Combat will be available via Steam with features its XBLA cousin does not have. Dedicated servers, Steam achievements, controller support, "editor support," and unannounced "new features" will come bundled with the Steam edition of the third-person, class-based shooter.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.
Valve might just approach Uber Entertainment for a promotional item tie-in, that's what Valve's Team Fortress unit would do. ;)
I have written this under << LINK REMOVED >>.

Well, << LINK REMOVED >> - and Valve's TF2 development unit played the game too.

Remember, Valve actually takes/copies a lot of ideas from other people as well - even if these other people copied from them. :P

@Zloth2 Thanks, I may do that. I have so many games anyways, it's hard to find time to play them all. I need to just stick with one game and play it through, before moving on to the next one. There are so many games for all three platforms that we as gamers are spoiled with them, and I would say this is probably the most games ever released in a gen. SNES and Genesis had a lot, so maybe that would be the closest competition, but that is only 2 platforms. Playstation,Saturn, and N64 had a lot of titles, but the Saturn bailed out early. So if this isn't the most games available in a gen, I'm sure it soon will be.

It looks like if you played the 1st disastrous Two worlds game, you will be lost for the sequel?

@godzillavskong, the game has been out in Europe for a few months now so you can probably find better than previews out there.

@BFKZ So Two Worlds 2 isn't any better than the first one, or is it better, but just not that good? Like I said earlier, they had nothing but good things to say about it in Game Informer's preview, so I was a little interested in it.

All I see and wanted this week is Dead Space 2. I did try the MP beta for the PS 3 and it rocked. It's very competitive play and fun. If you play your cards right you can do some serious damage on the MP end. The SP the demo did rock at all and I've felt improvements were there from the first. It's rare an gaming company like Visceral Games improve an sequel to the original. Normally the sequels don't pan out like the first game but this game does more than improvement it's, it's GotY to me.

@ FullMonty1394 sadly the gun is no bigger than the game case and is made of cheap plastic. I feel like I was ripped off but you do get some cool extras like dead space extraction.. The game is still awesom though..

tjoeb123 Posted Jan 23, 2011 3:25 pm PT @COPMAN221 You didn't be a mean pirate, did you? @tjoeb 123 No,I don't pirate games as that is for LOSERS. I'm playing the full retail version on my PS3 NOT the 360.I'm sure you all know you can't pirate PS3 games like you can on the 360. Check it out ENFORCER266. If you like I can post a video of the actual collector edition I have. Awesome game either way for whatever system you choose..

First Dead Space was mediocre. This one felt the need to add multi-player that will be desolate in a week. pass.

@noble95x or Skyrim, or Uncharted 3, or The Witcher 2 or Mass Effect 3 or The Last Guardian. I really don't see "Dead Space 2" or "Gears of War 3" taking game of the year for many, many reasons.

@Hunterjuggz It was in a Game Informer mag. When I said about hearing the first game was terrible, I was referring to the first Two Worlds, not the first Dead Space of course.I loved the first Dead Space, but I was a bit skeptical of the sequel to Two Worlds, but according to the Game Informer article, they have improved almost everything that was a issue with the first, which was a lot.

@BFKZ I've heard the first game was terrible, but there has been a lot of praise given to the progress, and improvement on this sequel. I was reading a pretty big article about it, and they rewrote the game engine, and it looks much better than the first. There are also no hiccups so far in this preview build, which wasn't finished at the time, so I may give this one a chance. I haven't finished Dead Space yet. I'm at the last level, so I probably wait until I finish the first one before I purchase the second!

I have no idea why they have to hold back TW2 for the PC. I'm guessing they want people like me who own high end PCs *and* all consoles to cave in and buy the console version. I just ordered the import version of the game from Amazon last night because I'm not waiting 2 weeks for a game that has been done for 5 months. At least Dead Space 2 is releasing at the same time for us.
