Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Only Has One 30fps Cinematic Graphics Mode On Console

On Xbox Series X|S, Hellblade 2 runs at 30fps with dynamic scaling.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 will be locked to 30fps on Xbox Series X|S consoles, Ninja Theory has confirmed. In an interview with German magazine GamePro, visual effects director Mark Slater-Tunstill confirmed the studio has opted to emphasize the cinematic nature of the game--which was developed on Unreal Engine 5--by running it at 30fps alongside dynamic scaling.

Beyond the stylistic choice, the game is still set to be a technical showcase with its impressive facial animations, realistic textures, and tense combat.

Now Playing: Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2's Combat Looks Beautiful And Feels Badass | GameSpot Preview

"Senua's movements in combat look and feel more realistic, prioritizing the heft of her sword, felt through her tired desperation during lengthier fights," Jordan Ramée wrote in a Hellblade 2 hands-on session. "Whenever Senua clashes swords with someone, Hellblade II makes it feel tense, as if life itself is challenging Senua to earn her right to exist in this world."

Hellblade 2 will launch on May 21 for Xbox and PC--where people can grab some extra frames if they have the hardware to do so--but it'll be launching without Ninja Theory founder and Hellblade writer-director Tameem Antoniades at the helm.

An Xbox spokesperson confirmed to Polygon that Antoniades is no longer at the studio and that environment art director Dan Attwell, visual effects director Mark Slater-Tunstill, and audio director David Garcia were leading development on Hellblade 2.

For a closer look at the game, you can see how Senua's perception of her psychosis will change in Hellblade 2 and how some of the coolest parts of the game is its mind-bending rocks.

Big yikes. Commonplace these days but still sucks. I'd rather developers prioritize performance before resolution. Xbox has been doing terribly in terms of sales. They don't need this.

@ceelogreen94: MS as a company isn’t hurting. Just saying their Xbox hardware sales are terrible and these setbacks don't help them. Especially when compared to PS5 and Switch sales. Not bashing Xbox games or Gamepass, but 434k for PS5 vs 71k for Xbox in Europe is pretty horrendous. It's no surprise they're releasing their exclusives on the competition now to make up for poor sales.

@mooglestar: Allow me to say this so people can understand this ok even you. Microsoft doesn't care about "HARDWARE" the XBOX "SOFTWARE" is what they care about. In terms of what the raw numbers are XBOX is more "Profitable" than Sony at this point. XBOX is the "Software" buddy not the "HARDWARE" the console is just an extension of the " HARDWARE " that is all.

@ceelogreen94: I'm talking about the Xbox hardware sales being horrible. Not sure how you missed that and chose to talk about something else.

@mooglestar: Yeah and My point being is that they aren't really concerned about that. You can choose to talk about that but that isn't what is important at all to Microsoft. If they were that concerned about that they would get out of the console business altogether.

@ceelogreen94: " you want a pc at the price of a console and that is stupid " Wrong conclusion and I will not go down that rabbit hole . You took the pc like remark out of context . When i say pc like, i mean same hardware architecture, more hardware revisions , using keyboard on console for titles , choosing a performance toggle , digital games , etc.

@john_price_1: Yeah, you basically want a PC as console that was my point. Consoles never were meant to be all of that or do all of that. They were just meant to be a cheap way into gaming with fixed options and hardware that is it nothing more and nothing less. If you want all of those options, then buy or build a PC it's just that simple.

@ceelogreen94: I agree with your comment . I use both . Consoles have more competitive hardware and are not not cheap considering the mandatory in a way subscriptions . When i buy a console i don't upgrade my pc until a point where i get the best value for my money . Anyways by me adding they could add an option for unlocking framerate for future consoles is relevant to the article , and doable . Next set of them launches in 3 years i guess

I'm so happy I dropped these trash ass consoles. I still have my PS5 and while ff16 was a god awful game it was also one of the worst performing triple A games I've ever played ff7 rebirth is also revolting I should've just waited for the PC launches but that's my inner final fantasy fanboy having to play at launch

Look as an XBOX player and a PC gamer I have to say that Console Gamers are to ENTITLED! you cannot have a game that looks like this and run at a solid 60fps on a console it's not possible to have to that. Yes, on PC the FPS is uncapped because well it's on PC and PC's are better than consoles in every way. Console gamers need to understand that consoles cannot and will not compete with PC's at all. I don't understand console gamers at all at this point. You want 4k at the highest setting and 60fps/120fps that is not and will never be possible in this generation and maybe not even next generation either. Consoles are just a cheap form of gaming for people who cannot afford PC's that is it.

P.s: I'm not calling console gamers broke at all.

@ceelogreen94: On the contrary , i think most gamers on console dont care at what resolution or framerate or generally setting they play their titles . Especially if its a single player game and not e-sports titles, competitive titles . I still believe in the less hassle of the console being a point to get them and not the money necessarily . Having a separate device for entertainment and work is important in my opinion .
