Sega Gamer's Day 2000: Sega Announces Ooga Booga

Visual Concepts is working on an online strategy game for the Dreamcast.

Today Sega of America threw the covers off its latest Visual Concepts-developed game, Ooga Booga. The game, which was discussed briefly over a year ago under its tentative name of Resurrection, is playable online. The premise of Ooga Booga is as quirky as its title. Ooga Booga Island is a torpical paradise and home to the Volcano Goddess, Ooga Booga. The island emerges from underneath the sea every full moon and the four tribes that inhabit the area converge on the island at those times to take part in a series of competitions. As the leader of one of these tribes the player must compete in a variety of traditional multiplayer contests such as domination, deathmatch, capture the flag, and king of the hill, to pump up their Mojo. Success in these online matches can help players unlock new masks, spells, and customization options for their respective tribe. The online game is also based on a web-ladder that allows players to choose to join one of eight clans and compete in month-long tournaments - the server keeps track of individual statistics and character power-ups can be unlocked as the player gains experience.

Sega of America described Ooga Booga as a strategy game that is designed for online play. However, it will also be playable offline in a story-driven setting. Ooga Booga will be released in March or April of next year.
