Saints Row Dev's Next Game May Be Agents of Mayhem

Several documents including a trademark and resumes point to the name.

The first details regarding Saints Row and Red Faction developer Volition's next game seem to have been discovered, based on three documents noted by Twitter user Nerd Leaks.

The first document is an "Agents of Mayhem" trademark filed by Volition's parent company Koch Media on May 3 with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. It's classified under video game software, computer game instructions, and cultural activities and entertainment. You can check it out for yourself here.

"Agents of Mayhem" shows up on the Istunt.com resume of stuntman and actor Brandon Molale, who's had small roles in L.A. Noire and films like Dodgeball and The Longest Yard. It says Molale did motion capture work for characters and lists Volition, Frame Machine, and Zach Lowery as references. There's a Zach Lowery who used to work at Volition as lead animator on Saints Row: The Third and IV; however, he now serves as senior animator at Cliff Bleszinski's Boss Key Productions. You can see Molale's resume here.

Lastly, the supposed game's name can be spotted on animator John Velazquez's resume, which says he worked at design, animation, and VFX studio Frame Machine on "Agents of Mayhem." You can take a look at the resume here.

We've contacted Volition and Deep Silver for comment and will update this story as we receive more information.

Volition released an ISO file of cancelled PSP game Saints Row Undercover for free in February. The developer's last official release was Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell in 2015.

Every time I hear about Volition, I really wish they will be announcing another "Summoner" game. They were fantastic at the time, and could be really incredible these days.

I loved Saints Row the first one. Wish they would go back to that or something close to Saints row 2, not a big fan of all the crazy over top stuff. Its fun and different but it was a nice change to GTA always being same gangster game at the time. To make your own character, build your own personalize gang and take over city was simple but easy and fun concept when it had a more city gang feel. Than the typical mafia feeling get in gta.

@bobjr: I like the OTT stuff, but they should stay as side missions, things to do for fun, when you want a break from the story.

These guys actually have a lot of talent. It just sucks how often they take the easiest route. Hopefully they go a bit deeper this generation. They actually could've competed with GTA. They quickly decided to just do goofy over quality. I know a lot of people enjoyed those later SR games, but they could've still been over the top, but also higher quality. GTA was taking itself too seriously, but SR was trying to hard to be ridiculous. Something in the middle would've been nice.

Another example of how they take the easy route. Red Faction Guerrilla was positively reviewed. The one problem many people had was the story. Instead of writing a better a story, they just changed the game from open to linear, which basically killed the gameplay freedom that naturally came with destructible environments in a open world game. Decisions like that is why they're not at the level they should be.

@PS2fweak: I couldn't agree more. Even with GTA 5 being a lot lighter than 4 it still had that bit of seriousness that kept it from recapturing that magic that San Andreas had.

Like the submarine sidequest to collect parts of that widow's husband's submarine, you get them all and she stiffs you for the cash and walks away giving the player a moral choice of whether or not you kill her but there's no further reward. If it were Saint's Row you would've gotten a crazy upgraded submarine with torpedoes (and the quest itself wouldn't have been so boring). GTA 5 is too far up it's own ass to give you any crazy rewards.

For me SR2 is the best of open world action, wacky but still slightly grounded in reality (insurance fraud aside). Activities were fun and you got awesome rewards for nearly everything you did in the game. My biggest problem with 3 however wasn't the wackiness turned up to 11, it was the sidemissions masquerading as story missions and overall quality of the game was much lower.

@DrunkenPunk800: After the way Deep Silver killed Gat Out of Hell, it sounds like many devs left Volition.

@Xirtahm: That is what I thought. Before even seeing Volition in the article when I stumbled onto it, I immediately thought of "Saints Row: Agents of mayhem". It entirely fits.

Deep Silver bought both Volition and Saints Row and Deep Silver isn't stupid. They aren't going to hiatus the SR series and aren't going to reassign Volition. Highly likely Volition's next game is saints row related but only time will tell. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they finally move on. Four main releases and a spinoff was a good run. Maybe Volition might be moving to a new IP?

Agents of Mayhem sounds like it's the law enforcement equivalent of Saint's Row so probably something like Crackdown but they have the potential to do it so much better. I trust Volition to make a better game than Reagent Games who don't really have any history. Plus Agents of Mayhem doesn't have to bear the burden of being a stupid cloud computing tech demo like Crackdown 3.

"Agents of Mayhem" sounds like an open world over the top action game, so basically what they are good at. I'm in.
