Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition announced

Kiwi developer Sidhe announce a new version of their popular League sim.

With the 13th Rugby League World Cup just around the corner, New Zealand developer Sidhe Interactive has teamed up with Aussie distributors Home Entertainment Suppliers (HES) to release an updated version of 2005's Rugby League 2 dubbed Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition, for the PlayStation 2.

Aside from jersey and roster updates for NRL, Super League, and international teams, Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition has added five new stadiums to the list of playable venues, as well as the addition of the Gold Coast Titans, who joined the NRL in 2007. Another addition will be new in-game cutscenes, which will show players taunting each other after a bad play, celebrating tries, and other animations. Business development manager for HES David Fobles said in a press release: “By working with Sidhe to deliver a new version of the game with updated features and rosters, we’re giving the fans what they want on the platform they want it most”.

Unlike the original Rugby League 2, World Cup Edition will not be appearing on the Xbox, or feature online play for PS2. When GameSpot AU contacted Fobles about this, he was unable to offer us anything more than "no comment".

Rugby League 2: World Cup Edition for PS2 is due out in early November in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Why does any body want to realease a game for ONLY the PS2?!?!?! This is completely rediculous, i agree with tawagivercetti, some real publisher needs to give Rugby a chance and create a great game for it. Rugby is the only real sport out in the world today. Go All Blacks!

wtf? no Xbox 360 release? Rugby League 1 and 2 is very mediocre at best, anyway. We need a League game made by someone like 2K. League games remain an untapped market. Why, I don't know...as it is by far the best sport there is. Go Dragons (in 2009)

I love Rugby League but why insult us by making a pathetic release like this. www.unrealtech.wordpress.com

I have been waiting for another rugby league game but not for the PS2. I want it to be on xbox 360 and PS3 which would be heaps mad. C'mon you kiwis, not many people play ps2 anymore. Get yourself's to the right generation.

Agreed its good there is another rugby league game coming out but i feel its going to dissapoint those that alreaady have the game, it wont have all that much extra to make it a worth while purchase and not seem like a cash in on the world cup. Lets hope a 360/PS3 game is in the works and all those roster updates and new teams/stadiums can be added in as DLC.

Agreed, a 360 version would be awesome, even if it's just the PS2 graphics in 720p (kind of like Bully). I have the first Rugby League game on Xbox but that doesn't work on the 360, and Rugby League 2 for Xbox is impossible to find (the sequel is backwards compatible).
