PS4 Getting Critically Acclaimed Journey This Month

[Update]Sony has confirmed the PlayStation 4 version of Journey will be released on July 21. The re-release will support cross buy, which means those that purchased it already for PlayStation 3 will be able to download the PS4 version for free.[update ends].

Last August, developer thatgamecompany announced that it was bringing its PlayStation 3-exclusive game Journey to the PlayStation 4. Now, the game's PS4 release date has been apparently leaked as July 21.

Found in the PlayStation E3 Experience guide on the PlayStation Docs website, the game page for Journey shows the date as coming later this month. The guide breaks down the different games appearing at E3, and it looks like the release date for Journey was probably published by mistake.

The PS4 port of Journey will be pretty similar to the PS3 version, but the game will run at 1080p and 60 frames per second. It was announced back at the Gamescom conference last year.

When it originally launched on the PS3 in 2012, Journey was met with critical and commercial acclaim. It was the fastest-selling PlayStation Network game ever at the time, and it currently sits at a 92 on Metacritic. GameSpot gave it a 9, and you can read our review here.

Sony hasn't commented on this leak, yet, but we will update this story if the company clarifies.

If the game's cross buy I'm psyched! If I have to buy Journey ( PS4 ) again ( No ) I'm not interested in 1080p 60fps.

@StHapns247: They are working on something (not Abzu, which is being made by a guy who spun out of TGC after Journey. Looks great though), they are just keeping it to themselves for know. This port is being handled by a third party and being paid for by Sony, so it doesn't affect TGC and whatever they're developing.

@StHapns247: They are, it's call ABZU when they show the trailer last year at E3 but I still couldn't understood why Sony didn't talk about it this year at E3. I also heard that ABZU will be coming to PC.

@davillain-: I know what you're saying, but TGC didn't become Giant Squid, they still exist and are working on their own new game. I assume, as they did with quite a few other games I was waiting to see, that they are being saved for Gamescom.

Some developers need more money than what they got from the original project if they ever want to make something big and new and exciting.

It's not a cheap industry, and I'm sorry you pretty much see it that way.

@Thanatos2k: The port, as many are, is being made by a third party company that exists to make ports and do other 'technical department' work. They don't staff the creative leads to make their own games. The port is being paid for by Sony, whom presumably will profit from its release. Meanwhile, TGC are working on their new title. Exactly what resources are being wasted here?

@Thanatos2k: these guys are not gonna make game excursively for Sony they want it there next game to be on most of gaming consoles so they left sony and they are not the type of devs you might be expecting of and they have received there money to make there next game from china so there not making this port just to make money for the next one, yup they already have money for the next one they're just doing a favor for new players to experience this masterpiece in new consoles.

@alaannn: Not worth explaining to it. There's a certain genetic problem with some people on gaming comment boards that causes them to think they know far more about game development than they do (i.e., nothing) and they are impervious to facts...particularly facts that prove their perpetual outrage to be entirely unjustified.
