In the wild, during the Brilliant Diamond half of the event, you'll run across Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup wearing Lucas' red Sinnoh hat, and have a greater chance of finding Stunky, Seel, Murkrow, Poochyena, Aron, Bidoof, Kricketot, and Buneary. Field Task encounters will see you encounter Gen 4's starting trio in Dawn's white Sinnoh hat, as well as Bagon and Burmy (both Sandy Cloak and Trash Cloak).

The second half of the event will be themed after Shining Pearl, beginning right at 10 AM local time on November 18. During this second half, you'll have a higher chance of encountering different Pokemon in the wild and Field Research.

Where you can find the trio of starting Pokemon switches, for example--Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup in Dawn's white Sinnoh hat will appear in the wild, while the three in Lucas' red hat will be able to be found in Field Task encounters. Additionally, you'll have a higher chance of finding Pinsir, Misdreavus, Houndour, Spheal, Bidoof, Kricketot, Buneary, and Glameow in the wild. And you'll run into Burmy (both Plant Cloak and Trash Cloak) in Field Task encounters.

As detailed in a Pokemon Go blog post, the type of Pokemon you'll encounter in raids throughout the event will also change between each half, and in both halves, Budew, Bonsly, Happiny, Mime Jr., and Riolu will have a greater chance of hatching from 7km eggs.

The event also features a collection challenge tied to the starting Pokemon. Catch all six of them during the event (three starters, each coming in two different colored flavors of hat) and you'll earn 1,000 experience, 3,000 Stardust, and an encounter with Froslass.

And finally, starting on November 15 at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET and continuing through to the end of the event, Pokemon Go's in-game store will feature Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl-themed cosmetics for purchase. Those items are listed below:

  • Turtwig Costume
  • Chimchar Costume
  • Piplup Costume
  • Sinnoh Hat
  • Sinnoh Top Set
  • Sinnoh Pants
  • Sinnoh Shoes
  • Sinnoh Backpack
  • Sinnoh Skirt
  • Sinnoh Boots
