Pillars Of Eternity: Complete Edition Coming To Consoles, Launching August 29

Classic isometric RPG gameplay on consoles

It's been an exciting year for Obsidian Entertainment. With Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire on the way, and new DLC for Tyranny coming later this year, the developers behind some rather dense isometric RPG games are cranking out some quality games that you can really sink your teeth into. But now, we can expect another title from Obsidian and Paradox Interactive ready for release this year. The publisher has just announced that the original Pillars of Eternity will be making its way to Xbox One and PS4 on August 29 with Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition.

In the Complete Edition, players who missed out on the original PC release will be able to experience the entirety of Pillars Of Eternity, including all expansions and updates--such as level cap increases, new difficulty modes, and balance tweaks. Ported over to consoles by Paradox Arctic, the developers and publisher worked closely with Obsidian to ensure that the move to consoles retained many of the core elements of the original game, which had to go through some changes to fit the new platforms.

Now Playing: Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition - Console Announcement Trailer

Its publisher, Paradox Interactive, states that a lot of work went into the creation of this port, and that it was all designed to ensure for comfort and accessibility.

"Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition goes beyond just offering everything together. Paradox Arctic has thoroughly updated the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the award-winning RPG for play with a controller, and have entirely redesigned the UI for easy viewing on televisions. Players will be able to easily navigate the game's detailed character creation, real-time-with-pause combat, and party management from their couches thanks to new TV-friendly menus and controls."

Set for launch on August 29 for $50, Paradox and Obsidian are ready to keep the CRPG titles coming--and with a new audience for the game, there's definitely looking to be an influx of new players ready to explore the world of Eora very soon. Amazing game. Played and beat it on PC. Other than all the reading I really loved this game. I can't wait to go through it again on PS4. Love the controller support I had to use a steam controller to get through it the first time.

Terrific that it's coming to consoles. I've heard many good things about this game and I'm in a big RPG mood right now. I'll have to grab this when it releases.

Well, at least you can walk with controller. With mouse and keyboard that simple action is impossible...

So happy this is coming to console. Between this and path of exile I'm going to have plenty of rpg goodness in a couple month.

it's nice to see crpg's make their way to console. I feel they are the best genre of rpg's on the market, it's cool when other platforms get to experience them.

I've been waiting all this time for a complete edition on the PC and it still doesn't seem to be a thing. Any news on that?

@Moondrake: Not that I've heard of, but with the Steam Summer sale set to kick off tomorrow (I believe) I'm sure you could get the game and both DLCs for less than the $50 this console version will cost.

When this launches, could you please add controller support for the Steam Link? Full controller support? Would be awesome.

Cool. I have the game with both expansions on Steam, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. This news makes me optimistic that they will provide controller support for the PC version, as I much prefer a controller to KB/M, but I don't think that's going to happen.

@The_Inebriator: you prefer controller over keyboard and mouse? Interesting. So much faster with the latter. Just can't see how anyone could prefer a slow and severely limited gamepad.

@yangwenli1: it's just more comfortable for me. Working the mouse doesn't bother me. It's using the keyboard for everything else that feels awkward to me, especially when the KB is used for movement. Feels too much like being at work. Of course that's probably why I always get stomped in online shooters now lol.

Kewl........this seems good, kinda tired of the watered down massive AAA so called RPG's that are more action than RPG......meh

$50 seems a bit steep though......still probably a better buy than the other stuff lolz

so many people have suggest me this game (PS4) but I just can't play W/J RPGs with this perspective (camera 3/4 from above) I tried a few games in the past for both console and PC, and I could never played them for to long

This is excellent news. Devs have been doing a great job of adapting RPG controls to controllers in recent years. Another 80M potential customers for them.

@everson_rm: I'd say Pillars is better than BG1 and NWN1, and on par with BG2 and NWN2.

Pillar's only real downside for me is that its starts pretty slow. The game does a poor job of summarizing the game world, and instead throws a bunch of real made up sounding fantasy words at you with too little context. But, once you've spent several hours playing it, you'll start to figure things out, and the story and characters will begin to flesh out and dig their hooks in.

@Mogan: Yah. The only thing I didn't really like was all the "extra" npcs with the Kickstarter backers little stories. I mean, it's a cool feature to have especially if you were someone who did fund the game, but they kind of messed up the immersion factor for me sometimes. Luckily, they have different color names so you can just ignore them if you don't want to read a bunch of fan-fiction (some of them are really good though, I admit).

@everson_rm: I liked it more than NwN (singleplayer) and the first Baldur's Gate. Maybe even more than the second. Really good concepts that the story deals with (don't want to spoil).

I'm not a fan of Pillars, I like games from InXile and Larian Studios far more, but I'm still happy they're bringing all those CRPG's to consoles in hope that some console players, that only play casual first-person shooters or third-person action adventures, will expand or 'broaden' their gaming horizon a bit. Same goes for the millions of PC players that only play e-Sports games too, of course. People should experience all that gaming has to offer, since experiences can vary so much from game to game than they can in other mediums, like movies or books.

Hey, that's great news! PoE starts a little slow, but it's a long game and gets better and better as it moves along.
