Virtual reality headset Oculus Rift has pipped both Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One to win the award for Best Hardware/Peripheral in the E3 2013 Game Critics Award.

Titanfall is just another shooter with mechs, just like The Last of Us is just another 3rd person zombie game..

Meaning - the guys at E3 were RIGHT last year. TLoU was mind blowingly awesome. So I'm betting Titanfall is going to be another 9 or 10 on the lists when it releases on the X1.

And no, PS4 groupies will not be able to play it. No matter how much they want to believe its just a 'timed' exclusive for a few months. That is simply not true. When asked directly, Respawn said the game was developed for X1 and PC. 360 is being developed by another team altogether. PS4 isn't even in the cards fanbois.

Oculus rift will revolutionize gaming and entertainment altogether. though. Major developers and game engines are already jumping onboard. Just a matter of time now.

@shaolinwind atm I'm not really looking forward to titanfall cause as you said, "Titanfall is just another shooter with mechs" and even though that sounds a little cool I don't want to get another shooter that adds one simple thing and calls it revolutionary, like Halo, CoD, etc. If it turns out that it is really everything they say it is then I'll get it for pc but it will most likely be just like every other shooter that we have already.

@rtircoklled You missed my point by a long shot I think.

Also, 'every other shooter that we have already' did not ever have a chance of winning scores above and beyond everything else at E3 for the last half a decade. So there is something there besides 'a shooter with mechs' imo.

Didn't they do a test in the 90s and see that you can get eye problems after using "VR" goggles? I seriously can't remember and I'm legit asking. I hope there aren't any eye problems because it looks awesome and I play games for more than a couple hours at a time.

@genjuroT screen tech back then was completely different. the UV content your eyes were exposed to was like 300% harsher when close up than the LED tech they use in the small screens today. It will be nothing like that, though there are a lot of people that don't feel well when exposed to too much stereoscopic 3D content. That has more to do with motion sickness proneness than anything permanent though.

Eye problems probably won't be any worse than staring at your computer screen at work for 8 hours a day ;)

Wow no pressure on Titanfall. Last year The Last of Us cleaned up with many of the game-based awards, and that ended up being fantastic (for most people). Also the Oculus boys should be aware that the E3 hardware award for the last 2 years have gone to The Wii U and PS Vita, should it's a bit early to break out the drinks just yet :P

@hadlee73 I was thinking the same about The Last of Us. And they sure didn't disappoint. I'm betting Titanfall is on a whole new level with the FPS realm.

TBH, the hardware awards always confuse me a bit, since there's usually not too much to speak of hardware wise most years. However, this year, the fact the Oculus won over the big boy consoles... That is very telling. This was a huge year at E3.

This is a perfect example why in movies, music, and games I NEVER pay attention to Critics. How is a piece of hardware that has no realistic release date or window, nor has anyone been able to use it an hour without calling on earl be able to win best hardware???!! How is it not once do we see the Division or destiny for that matter??? and how is Titanfall a game that adds to an already saturated genre, winner of almost every award including most original lol. The worst part of all this is i dont even think Titanfall was the clear best shooter at E3....Battlefield looked preeeeety amazing.

@Jay3K Well, if you look at last years awards (All going to The Last of Us) and play the game - you will see: They were right.

I have pretty high hopes for Titanfall now. It's pretty much decimating all of the competition, just like Last of Us did.

Oculus will probably be a new uprising in entertainment altogether. The experiences occurring there will be unavailable anywhere else. Major developers are jumping on board. Unreal Engine 4 is even fully supported natively.

Not only will this be used for games, but a new genre of Movies, story telling, socializing, seriously imagine the capabilities once someone creates the self image avatar system with something like the Kinect2, that basically makes a digital version of yourself but with unlimited potential, superpowers, unlimited funds in a virtual worlds created by themselves. Its a simple step away from the world in Caprica if you ever saw that. If not you should check it out.

@shaolinwind @Jay3K Nice points made. and im not saying Titanfall doesnt look like a game I would buy and love because i know I would. But there are too many iffy aspects to that game where games like the division was universally loved and is ACTUALLY original. Also the oculus rift looks amazing but i just think there is a such thing as crowning something king too quick especially when we just watched the two most impressive entertainment consoles just unveil.

@Jay3K @shaolinwind Well kind of on my point with the Oculus Rift, the E3 critics are actually very picky. The fact that they scored the Rift higher than the new consoles also announced is HUGE.

The fact that Titanfall won awards across the board is very telling as well. Think about it, they were scoring games like Watchdogs, The Crew, The Division, Beyond Two Souls etc. I think there will be a major shift in Multiplayer fps outlook gaming wise when Titanfall is released.

@Jay3K @shaolinwind A lot of people have actually used the Oculus Rift and you can get one now(although it still does require some more work since it's only a developer's edition) and it will be a 100 bucks cheaper when it's going to be released and you can get the Oculus Rift and Omni so you can even play physically.

@Jay3K Because even the theory of this device is better than anything the PS4 or XBone have to offer. The fact that it is more than theory and was actually shown is even better.

@Poodger @Jay3K Im not debating how awesome it would be you know, Im simply saying that how could it beat the two most impressive consoles ever created and alot of it is theory now. im positive it will succeed but it won over two amazing already put together ready to go systems.

@thedirtyleg While we can debate which is better, i will say that the division was a strong follow up or even a strong 1st in many categories. yet no mention in this article.

The division seemed to offer more new gaming mechanics.

@Skhuff @Guy_Brohski Hear hear! There is NOTHING original there..... just another overblown AAA shooter full of AWESOME that panders to the lowest common denominator: e.g. guns, noise and robots for insecure 14 year old boys.

I despair if this is the best that the next gen can do. At least the indie scene is still thriving and I can enjoy the likes of Thomas Was Alone, Fez, Knytt Underground and Limbo.

What I really want to see in the way of originality is The Last Guardian... SONY, WHERE'S MY GIANT DOG/BIRD CREATURE TO PLAY WITH?????

@Guy_Brohski It really doesn't. The more details I see; the more I don't like. Jetpacks are cool, but that's about it. I was thinking about it for pc, but without single-player, eh, watch dogs looks better.

I have an eye condition that makes focusing on objects up close physically painful at times. Frankly I don't know if something like the Rift, as neat as it sounds, will be be an option for me.
