No Split-Screen for Uncharted 4 Multiplayer at Launch, But Could Come Later

However, Naughty Dog is not 100 percent confident it will ever be able to release the feature due to "hurdles and obstacles."

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will not include split-screen multiplayer at launch, though this feature could come sometime after launch, Naughty Dog said today during a livestream event today.

Lead designer Robert Cogburn said split-screen is a "technically challenging" feature; there are many "hurdles and obstacles" that would need to be overcome if the feature is ever delivered.

While Naughty Dog is interested in adding this feature to the game after launch, it was scrapped so that the team could meet the May 10 release date.

Cogburn went on to say that, as a result of the issues mentioned above, Naughty Dog is not 100 percent confident that it will ever be able to release a split-screen mode for Uncharted 4 multiplayer. That's in part why it was not mentioned in Naughty Dog's recently published DLC roadmap.

Still, Cogburn said developers at Naughty Dog are big fans of couch co-op and would like to add the feature someday, even if it takes a long time.

As for what is on Uncharted 4's DLC roadmap, Naughty Dog plans to deliver things like more maps and modes, as well as a "cinema replay" feature. All of this content will be free, though players can also spend real-world money to buy vanity items. Take a look at the roadmap in the image below.

Also during the stream today, Naughty Dog said it's considering a "classic" mode for Uncharted 4 inspired by Uncharted 2, the first game in the series to include a multiplayer. However, it's just an idea at this stage and may not be delivered. Additionally, developers said they would love to release a spectator mode for Uncharted 4, but, as with the other possible elements, Naughty Dog is not in a position to confirm anything yet.

After years of development and multiple delays, Uncharted 4 is now due to arrive on May 10 exclusively for PlayStation 4.

Are you people stupid? They had plenty of time to get this right and still more bs on top of day one dlc. My god you people just love bending over for these companies, I'm so glad I only got this game for $10 because they don't even desreve the full $60. $20 from Nexus Google imprint, $20 of best buy rewards a friend went shopping with and $10 from my psn credit towards my ps4 purchase. F**k Naughty Dog milking this franchise and to the idiots who said who plays the MP, umh a lot of people dofus from uncharted 2 & 3! THIS WAS SOMETHING SO simple TO ADD BUT NO ITS not AN ISSUE. So when is the single player DLC coming because I don't care about Uncharted's tacked on multiplayer? Also will those new weapons we get be added to the campaign as well or are they just coming to the tacked on multiplayer I don't care about.

Meh big deal and the main attraction is still single player. Anyways, embargo will be lifted tomorrow folks, so we shall get to see those reviews tomorrow.

Still not really hype but I already pre-order UC4 nonetheless and looking forward to what the final Uncharted game has to offer and I heard it's better then TLOU.

Ppl says that UC is about single player mostly which might be true for UC 1+2 but since UC3 ND and Sony are pushing the multiplayer.
And with the multiplayer demo of UC4,ppl should open their eyes...more and more resources was spent for the multiplayer mode.
I see already in the comments(and that will not change much),ND and Sony are getting away with it pretty much good which was expected...

Dont you see the obvious?

1. More time was spend on the multiplayer and that is why they had no time and resources for the splittscreen..something they had alredy in previous UCs.Also how much that affects the campaign(in lenght and content) is to be seen.
As already stated from other devs,the multiplayer takes 1/3 of the budget from the whole game

2. You and your friend have to buy each a copy to play the game together = more money for Sony and less for you or your friend for other games.

@sladakrobot: I'm more interested in a multiplayer that has more time spent making it a great experience than time spent to optimize it for split screen. I don't see what the problem is here.

Also, ND is pretty aware how crucial the single player is, especially for this game. I don't think we need to worry about it at all.

Every single ND game I've played has been an incredible experience all-around. They are one of the very few developers out there that I have complete faith in.

I'm happy to say I don't play multiplayer or online almost at all. I'd b happy to get a few extras for single player intead but I'm still totally in for this golden final saga coming in a few days

Uncharted games are first and foremost single player experiences, multiplayer is not it's selling point like other shooters so I can't see anyone complaining about co-op even though it would be nice to have it.

@letsgame82: I'll complain about it! Well not really...but I'll be sad because Uncharted's multiplayer was amazing and I have never put so many hours into online multiplayer like that before. Then when 3 had split screen my friends and I played every day, even more than 2 because we didn't have to pass the controller. Still, hope this ones delivers, and that the Last of Us guys kept the light heartedness of the series intact. Looking forward to next week!

Oh but there was massive long winded shit when Halo 5 said there wasn't split screen either. Naughty Dog have waited till the last second to announce that, but 343 were honest up front and came off much worse.
