Nintendo Switch Fighter Arms' File Size Revealed

Small arms.

The digital version of Nintendo's upcoming fighting game, Arms, will take up less space on your Switch than you might think. According to a screengrab of the game's store listing from Reddit user aftheblackguy, the brawler weighs in at just 2.2 GB.

This is for the UK version of the title, but US and Australian versions will likely be similar to that figure. Take a look at the screengrab below.

The figure means purchasing Arms digitally will take up around 7% of your Switch's internal memory. By comparison, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes up 13.4 GB (about 42%) on Switch, while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe comes in at 6.75 GB (approximately 21%). If you're already struggling for space on your Switch, you'll be glad to hear the device supports memory cards of up to 2 TB. Check out our list of the best micro SD cards for the Nintendo Switch, and take a look at the file sizes for a bunch of other Switch games.

In other Arms news, a new Japanese trailer was recently revealed, showing off the game's different control schemes, characters, and game modes. Take a look at that here.

If you can't wait to try Arms for yourself, you don't have long to wait. A free demo--or "Global Testpunch," as Nintendo is calling it--is coming, starting this weekend. The full game, meanwhile, launches for Nintendo Switch on June 16--take a look at our recent Arms preview for more.

Hell yeah, will try this game tonight. Looks good. Also would love it if games on other consoles cared a bit about making the file sizes as small as possible. Wouldn't expect a large XB game to be 2GB obviously, but 60GB+ plus Gigabytes of updates tells me they just don't care at all about making the file size smaller where possible.

Yawn, this is only going to sell to those desperate for non-Wii U ports. I'm not getting it, it looks stupid, and is just another hold-over, because of Nintendo's idiotic decision to keep consoles and handhelds as separate platforms, despite Iwata merging them in 2013.

@jimclirad: this is going to sell to people who see it as fun. Just because you think it looks stupid doesn't mean it is. I think this game looks like a lot of fun and I'm sure others think the same, Not because they're "desperate" to play games, that's idiotic reasoning at best

@Sphensen: I don't care about this game either - and not that big of a stretch that a few people will buy it because it is the best option so far in Jun not because they really dig it.

I only buy digital games if there is no physical release, and most of the digital-only games don't take up absurd amounts of space.

Meh, not really into fighting games. Why the Switch needs 3rd party games in the future - fill in the gaps.

@Sphensen: As in someone on May 24th who does not care about ARMS (Jun 16th) so waiting for Splatoon2 (july 21st) has something new to play not just old ports between release... hence "gaps". As for only 3 months old - I said "in the future", hard to think they would be there at this point. But they will need 3rd party games to get there.

While this is not too bad the real issue is the Switch should have had more internal storage. 32GB in this day and age is tiny. Heck the OS will wind up slowly eating that space up over time.

@dragonsama: but you're also not required to download every game a la PS4/XBOX1 style

@dragonsama: Yes, but for the 500+GB required to keep people from complaining the price would have needed to increase by at least $100. Solid state storage still isn't cheap, and a hard drive isn't an option.

@timmyp1982: You made that up. If you're serious, stop looking at eBay listings of fake SD cards. Besides that, the type of storage in Switch is more akin to SSDs than SD cards.

@Zero_Maniac: That's what I always do. I'm just saying however that it's pretty unacceptable for Nintendo to put so little storage in this machine.

@nikolistary: so, what? Not all games should be junk for adults. There are more than enough boring FPS and other games basing their fun on the level of gore and violence already.

@gamingdevil800: Well Tekken 7 was released two years ago so I would hope that the pricing is lower. Meanwhile Arms will stay at full price for the next 2-3 years at least....

@lebanese_boy: half the games on the Switch are 2 year old or more and they not lower. Also Zelda BOTW has already gone on sale for 39.99 twice at NewEgg. Arms won't last that long without a sale, Amazon already took 5 dollars off.

@agramonte: I don't think you got the point of my comment. Also I was talking about regular suggested prices, not some sale.

@lebanese_boy: Errr, ok. It sounded like he should have had an expectation that it would be lower because it was 2 years old - yet the platform he is comparing it with that is not the norm right now.

Huh? Retail price is the true price of an item - MSRP, is always artificially high. Why Nintendo puts "* MSRP: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. Actual price may vary. See retailer for details" on their site. Splatoon & SSB still have a 59.99 MSRP, nobody pays that at retail at this point.

Regardless, all good either way.

@agramonte: I mistakenly said that Tekken 7 was released two years ago, that was actually for the arcade version. The game was released last year on consoles but only in japan and is now releasing worldwide. I was saying that for a two year old game I would expect it to have a lower price because that's what pretty much every publisher under the sun does after some time has passed following launch. But of course it is now brand new for anybody outside Japan so that 2 year thing doesn't count yet.

Except of course Nintendo for which I was complaining that Arms would likely stay full price even after 2 years because Nintendo.

Also the retail price for BoTW is still at full price and anywhere you look except if some retailer is holding a special sale or has special prizes for premium members (amazon) you'll still find it at full price. That's what I'm talking about. Zelda still has NO OFFICIAL PRICE DROP and likely won't for a long time if history is anything to go by. I love Nintendo but hate their premium prices on their games.
