Nintendo Switch Eshop Adds 12 New Games This Week

Night in the Woods, Crypt of the NecroDancer, and more arrive on Switch.

Another new batch of games have arrived for Nintendo Switch. Switch owners have a lot of great options to choose from this week, as 12 new titles are now available on the Eshop, as is the first DLC for the Pokemon fighting game Pokken Tournament DX.

Practically all of this week's releases launch on the Eshop Thursday, February 1, and they include a handful of beloved indie games that are worth a look. Along with this week's classic Neo Geo title, Samurai Shodown II, Switch owners can now download the affecting adventure game Night in the Woods; the rhythm dungeon crawler Crypt of the NecroDancer; the side-scrolling adventure game SteamWorld Dig; and the puzzle-platformer Shiftlings: Enhanced Edition. Also available are the action-platformer AeternoBlade; the top-down shoot-'em-up Sky Force Reloaded; the rhythm game Frederic 2: Evil Strikes Back; and the humorous adventure game Her Majesty's SPIFFING.

In addition to the above releases, the first wave of Pokken Tournament DX DLC is now available. On top of new customization items for your avatar, the DLC adds a new playable Pokemon, Aegislash, as well as two support characters: Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. The DLC can only be purchased as part of the game's $15 Battle Pack, which will also get you access to a second wave of add-on content in March. That consists of another new playable Pokemon, Blastoise, and two more support Pokemon: Mew and Celebi.

You can find the full list of this week's new Switch releases below. A lot of notable titles have been coming to Switch recently. Last week's batch of releases included the challenging platformer Celeste and the classic-style RPG Lost Sphear, while Dragon Quest Builders and Disc Jam arrive next week. Switch owners also have Bayonetta 2, Fe, and Payday 2 to look forward to this month.

Ooh, Fe is coming to the Switch? Nice. There's just too much to play right now. Started Celeste today and it's fantastic so far.

I don't understand the fact that Steam World Dig (1st game of the serie) gets released this week on Switch, AFTER "Steam World Dig 2" has been out for months and even at bargain price every now and then...

I never played Steam World Dig before so I decided to hop into SWD2 on the switch.
From the reviews everywhere, they said the 2nd game has some big improvements over the 1st title...

So it's only now that the 1st game gets released and I don't see why should I get it if AFTER I played the 2nd improved title.

Isn't it awkward?

@silv3rst0rm: I played the original on 3ds, the sequel on the switch and am now enjoying the original again on switch. It's true that they improved the game's mechanics and upgrade system in the sequel, but if you've never played the first on it's still worth checking out!

Look for example at the remastered editions of Dark Souls....even though one might argue that, since there are improved sequels on the current gen platforms that it wouldn't make sense to release the older game anymore, but playing the original will still be a great experience for those who never played or already played and loved the 1st game

I don't know...

To me it's as if they'd re-release Destiny (1st title) next year after Destiny 2 has been out for a while...

@silv3rst0rm: it's pretty standard for a game's sequel to branch out to other platforms. For example, a ton of new players have enjoyed Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild without touching the previous games in the series.

Yet, they'll eventually release Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time on virtual console for the Switch sometime between now and the colonization of Mars.
