Nintendo Reveals More Switch Games, Including Some Exclusives

The launch lineup may not be huge, but a lot more is on the way.

With Switch launching in just a few days, Nintendo today highlighted many of the indie games on the way to the platform.

As part of its Nindies Showcase (above), Nintendo made a number of exciting Switch game announcements. These include SteamWorld Dig 2 (launching this summer); the latest Bit.Trip game, Runner 3 (a Switch exclusive coming this fall); and a 16-bit "spiritual successor" to Retro City Rampage called Shakedown Hawaii (releasing first on Switch this April).

Now Playing: Nintendo Switch - Nindies Showcase Trailer

We also got a look at what we now know is called Wargroove, the Advance Wars-esque strategy game from Starbound developer Chucklefish. That launches on Switch later this year with local and online multiplayer support for one to four players.

Many of the games covered during the broadcast were announced as launching this year, but without specific dates. One exception was Blaster Master Zero, a follow-up to Blaster Master that features "new and improved gameplay systems" and a two-player mode. It comes exclusively to Switch and 3DS on March 9.

Other games coming in the near future include Pocket Rumble, a 2D fighting game from Chucklefish and Cardboard Robot Games, which launches in March. In April, we'll see Mr. Shifty, a stealthy, teleportation-centric action game, and Graceful Explosion Machine, a side-scrolling shooter. Both of these launch first on Switch.

Stardew Valley was already known to be coming to Switch (in lieu of a Wii U version), but Nintendo announced it will be the first console to offer its new multiplayer support. The game itself launches this summer.

Nintendo said more than 60 indie games are slated for release on Switch this year. You can check out the full presentation in the video above, and see all the new games and trailers here.

Dammit! Sill no Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. And none of the previous Zelda games, either. I really want to play those games!

I heard "Monster Boy" will be on the Switch. That's a game that could persuade me to get a Switch.

Ok, I was really shitting on the Switch because of its weak lineup and price here in Canada, however after watching this I am seeing the long potential for this device. The PS Vita was a powerhouse of a handheld, but like a lot of Sony endeavours it wasn't marketed properly and in its early stages didn't have a mainstream niche to tackle until the huge boom in indie development - sadly it was at the end of the Vita's life. With the Switch being fancy new, more and more great indie titles coming out, really powerful as far as a handheld goes, and NOW proper 3rd party support. I think this thing is going to be an indie gamers/Nintendo fans must have device. Seriously. This could be Nintendo's Magnum Opus. A mix of handheld and in the livingroom. If they give this device the same attention as they do their other handhelds this will be the gaming machine of this generation. Nintendo needs to treat this thing like a handheld for it to succeed though.

Get Rocket League on this thing and make a Rocket League bundle. Game over.

This is all coming from a really loud disser of Nintendo for years. I am liking what I am seeing. Well, other than the stupid controller gimmicks still and the bold prices for their peripherals. Just making a fucking box that plays games. We like your games not your hardware. I wish they understood this.

@WingChopMasta: You forgot another thing. Remember, Nintendo is working on implementing augmented/virtual reality sometime down the line. So it will be a home console/handheld/AR machine all in one.

I imagine you slide the screen into a headset like you can do with some smartphones, the controllers are already built for that kindof gaming anyway, and already have some kindof motion sensors. Remember how popular Pokemon Go became? That mightve just been a dry run for their bigger AR plans.

Steamworld Dig 2? wow, I hope they ditched the turn based system, just to make the game fun again.

@santinegrete: Are you talking about SteamWorld Heist?

SteamWorld Dig is the one where you, well... dig.

@VooDooPC: exactly! Steamworld heist is the turn based one. Isn't it based on the same universe?

...shit. I never thought I'd find myself considering buying a console purely because of their indie line up.

@johncas89: This. All of this. If they don't make a proper Monster Hunter for this system their a joke. The issues they had with Wii U was because thier devs struggled to make good stuff in HD. The reason they stick with 3DS is because that crap takes little effort. There's no challenge to churn stuff out for it and it still sells like mad.

I am staying cautious about what will end up coming out for this as in first party titles. I have little faith this year for anything great other than Zelda and maybe Mario. Late 2018 might see some things worth the price.

@WingChopMasta: MH Online's got some pretty good looking graphics though and its a 4 year old game already so they already got that down... id like to see them implement those graphics for the new MH game theyll have for the NS.

And fingers crossed for an MH teaser at E3!

Not paying 300$ for a console that the only thing its showing are indies and already tired of Zelda games, was hoping for good 3rd party support.

@johnnyboy787: stick with the usual PS/xbox brand then. Honestly the consoles get better treatment than the neutral PC platform.

@johnnyboy787: but 3rd party will only bring shovel-ware also... Nintendo isn't gonna pay 3rd parties incentives to have timed exclusives, and MS/Sony knows this. That why while they glad Nintendo is there they don't feel threatened because they know they wont touch the vault just to please 3rd parties

This I'm happy about. I like indie games but as a PC gamer, some games just aren't PC-material. I would much rather play some of them on the couch or on the go.

@jinzo9988: indie games are perfect for this console. Its the one system that beats all the others thanks to mobility and Indies won't need to sacrifice graphical quality.

@sakaixx: to be fair they do have at least one game announced from Activision, ubisoft, Ea, Bethesda, Bandai Namco, Konami. 2K, Capcom, square Enix , Koei tecmo, telltale games, Sega, and atlus.

If you like simple games with simple graphics I'm sure it will be "cool". All of the games mentioned above are just..... not great.

All those games is just not worth to buy a 500 dollars console but I really want to try Zelda and see how that games is like. I guess I'll wait until there is more games on Switch Concole.
