New Silent Hill 2 Gameplay Footage Premieres, And It's Very Scary

We got a fresh look at Bloober Team's upcoming remake during State of Play.

Silent Hill 2 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated horror games right now, and Bloober Team and Konami gave fans what they wanted with a fresh look at the remake during PlayStation's latest State of Play presentation.

The new trailer showed off some truly spooky environments and enemies. Unfortunately, though, Konami was not ready to announce a release date for the PS5 game. Check out the new gameplay footage in the trailer below.

The State of Play broadcast also provided a new look at the first-person game Silent Hill: The Short Message and revealed that it's out today as a free-to-play title.

Silent Hill 2 is a full remake of the classic 2001 survival-horror game, complete with modern visuals and the involvement of composer Akira Yamaoka and artist Masahiro Ito from the original game. The expectations are sure to be sky-high with such a beloved game getting the remake treatment. It'll be available on PS5 when it releases.

Like I said right from the first moment this was announced,
the intentions behind this project (the vibes, if you will)
feel alllllll wrong.

Aside from the dodgy-looking gameplay with awful or stock sound effects,
the fact they started with SH2 instead of SH1,
is a really bad sign.
The more I see the worse it looks.
The combat in this trailer looks like a fan project.

A project birthed from the unholy union
of KONAMI's famous greed and Bloober's famous mediocrity.

They should just go ahead and name James to “Konami” this time around.
And Mary to “Silent” a la MGS5. Which reminds me, “Kojima” would work just as well.
Maybe then this god-forsaken Day Before lookalike may actually mean something to someone.

@naryanrobinson: I have no idea how you equate them starting with this instead of the first one as, “a really bad sign.” They started with this, because it’s the most beloved game in the entire series. I guess you missed where Capcom started their Resident Evil remakes with the second game and it was a great decision.

I’m not saying this is going to be a success (in fact, the odds are stacked against it), but that has nothing to do with choosing to do this over the first game. That’s not a sign of anything. Lol.

@stickemup: It's a bad sign exactly because it's the most beloved in the series.
It means they've just jumped into the middle where they think they could make the most money right off the bat.
Even though none of the games have much to do with each other,
they do have a little,
so it shows a lack of respect for the IP.

And no, CAPCOM didn't start their RE remakes with the second game.
I don't know what you're talking about here.

The free horror game they showed right before this looked more impressive to me tbh. Looks alright but not even close to RE remakes.
