Now Playing: The History of Black Friday

As for the Brutal Legend freebie, it's available for $0.00 through Wednesday, November 22. You can grab it right here. Released in 2009, Brutal Legend stars Jack Black as the voice and likeness of a roadie named Eddie Riggs. Due to some cosmic weirdness, he gets sucked into a world inspired by metal music. The game has a killer soundtrack featuring songs by Ozzy Osbourne, Motorhead, Skid Row, Iced Earth, Black Sabbath, and Mastodon, among many others. Musicians such as Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford, Rob Halford, and Lemmy Kilmister appear in the game, as does actor Tim Curry.

These offers come just days ahead of Black Friday, where you'll be able to save big on lots and lots of games, as well as hardware and accessories. You can check out the links below to find out more about what's on sale this year. Additionally, it's rumoured that Steam's own Black Friday sale will kick off later this week, so keep checking back for more.

How are some of the popular games cheaper physically? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

@crunkster64: If I had to wager a guess, used games and competition. If I want to buy a Digital game for the PC the price is probably more controlled by the developer since the seller isn't buying an actual game box from the developer they are just giving a percentage of the sale for the right to sell it at a fixed price and the right to distribute either the game or a key for the game. In some cases they might buy the key ahead of time and have the right to choose the price they sell the key at but I doubt this is often the case. To make things worse Steam or GoG are generally the goto stores for most people which makes other stores less able to compete. Some big names like Humble Bundle can but not having the competition is terrible.

Physical has a ton of different retailers all trying to make deals from your mom and pop stores to big retailers like GameStop. They buy the games ahead of time with some but likely not as much agreement to keep the prices at a specific price. They have more freedom to do sales and with black friday coming up a lot of reason to have the sales. They also have used games that they can sell at even cheaper prices since these places generally pay rock bottom prices to buy used games hence all the complaints of GameStop only giving $5 for a $30 game.

It's one of the reasons I love physical games, I'll be going to my local store on black friday and they are doing a buy 1 get 1 free on any of their used games that I've never had a single issue with as they can be a bit picky on which discs they buy from people and they fix any imperfections in the discs before selling it again. I buy all my new console games from Amazon on a physical disc because Amazon offers 20% off all newly released games because they want gamers to buy from them.
