New Job Posting Suggests Alien: Isolation Dev's Next Game Is A Hero-Based Shooter

A game like Overwatch or Apex Legends maybe?

Creative Assembly, the developer behind the hugely popular first-person survival horror game Alien: Isolation, has been working on a new IP. The studio has remained rather secretive on its latest project, but a new job opening at Creative Assembly hints that the game could be a hero-based shooter.

First noticed by VG247, Creative Assembly is looking for a lead hero designer to work on "a ground-breaking FPS." The role asks for someone who can lead the creative process for "exciting playable characters" that each have "a range of amazing thought and play provoking specialties." It sounds like Creative Assembly is designing a first-person shooter game that features a cast of diverse playable characters that each possess their own unique set of skills and abilities, much like Overwatch, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Apex Legends.

Now Playing: Alien: Isolation Dev Possibly Making A Hero Shooter - GS News Update

The lead hero designer role also asks applicants to have a "broad understanding of monetization, rewards, and art production" and a willingness to provide "guidance on visual design and cosmetics." This further reinforces the comparison to the hero-based shooters listed above, as all three feature cosmetics tied to some form of microtransactions.

Earlier job postings at Creative Assembly have referred to the developer's new title as a tactical shooter, but not much else is publicly known about the game. Given that hero shooters have been done for a while now, it's unlikely the "ground-breaking" description of the game is in reference to hero-focused combat. What's more likely is that Creative Assembly is designing a game that utilizes hero-based combat in a genre that hasn't been done much of before, similarly to how Respawn innovated on hero-focused shooters by putting those mechanics into a battle royale game.

Wish we got Alien: Isolation 2 or something. The first is one of my favorite games this generation and is right alongside Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay as one of the best games based off a film franchise in my opinion. It's still a game I play from time to time; I just wish it was enhanced on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

Hero shooter? People call Bleeding Edge and Rainbow 6 hero shooters but they're not. One is a fighting game and the other is a tactical shooter with hero elements that don't fundamentally affect gunplay and skill. Not every game you hear about dubbed as a hero shooter is gonna end up like Battleborn and Lawbreakers. Most of these "hero shooters" we hear about don't remotely resemble Paladins or Overwatch. It's like putting Total War and Autochess in the same category as "strategy". If I didn't know better i'd say these websites try to kill these games with bad press. No every 'skeptic' who supposedly hates IGN and Gamespot calls every new online game a DOA Anthem clone. Hypocrites.

I'm really curious just how badly "Alien: Isolation" sold. I mean, it landed with such a thud that Sega gave up the Alien license and has now washed its hands of porting and republishing the game on the Switch.

@zmanbarzel: I used to be of the opinion that it's a good game not many people played that was silenced by bad reviews. Now I think it's somewhat average but compared to games it released next to it was one of the better launch year titles of Xbox and PS4. Sega never had a great history with the license.

As a long time Total War fan, I am scandalized that Creative Assembly would be referred to as, "the Alien: Isolation developer."

Scandalized.

Another hero shooter? WTF? After Alien: Isolation's accolades you'd have thought that would be a no-brainer. I swear, if they release some bs multiplayer only, loot boxes full of meh, shrinking world battle royale game I'll hurl all over their building. On purpose. After eating something nasty, too.

@lolfooledyou: This!

Alien Isolation was a hell of a game.

I would have loved a follow up of some sorts.

Fantastic. I was really looking for a hero shooter. I haven't seen any around on the market lately, thought it was time to bring back the genre, y'know?

Oh God this industry.

Good luck with that, especially when the heroes themselves seem to be designed ground up to be monetized. Hurry up, lawmakers. We need those regulations asap.
