Namco, Bandai merging Japanese game ops

Game of corporate-merger musical chairs continues; Namco Bandai Games to be established March 31.

TOKYO--While the formation of Namco Bandai Games America seems to have resolved the merger between Namco and Bandai across the Pacific, the two companies are still jumping through restructuring hoops in their homeland.

Namco Bandai Holdings announced it will establish a new company, Namco Bandai Games Inc., that will absorb its video game operations starting March 31. While it will incorporate all of the pair's combined gaming ventures, Namco's arcade operations will soon be spun off into their own new company.

Current Namco chairman Masaya Nakamura will serve as chairman of Namco Bandai Games, with Namco vice president Shukuo Ishikawa taking over the new company's president position, and Bandai board member Shin Unozawa becoming its vice president.

I like that the games company will almost be a seperate division than all the other crap the companies do. This means better direction and more focus on just the games without the other stuff getting in the way.

Bandai does put out some good stuff, but most of it doesn't get released in the US. Hopefully things will work out in our favor.

Quote: "hope Bandai doesn't ruin the Tekken series." Namco already did that after Tekken 3. :) Seriously though, Bandai is terrible and Namco has steadily been either ruining their good franchises or creating crappy new ones. Frame City Killer looks like it might be alright, but fix Tekken and Soul Calibur first please! (Soul Calibur 3=a step backward)

I hope this merger will provide Bandai with the technical knowledge to make Gundam games with better gameplay. I hope that the merger will not affect the quality of Namco's series.

that was (i think) an awful move for Namco. Namco is a pretty good company, but merging with Bandai (which has been recently been making crappy games) is gonna ruin some of Namco's great games. I hope i am wrong :(

As long as one doesn't try to bully the other this could be a good deal.

Optimusv2, that doesn't mean that... A developer making a exclusive for one platform might have another exclusive for another platform.
