Multiple Assassin's Creed Remakes In The Works, Including Potentially Black Flag

Ubisoft wants to revisit older Assassin's Creed games.

There are multiple remakes of Assassin's Creed games currently in development, and Ubisoft is aiming to release more games in the series on a regular basis.

In a Q&A session with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, he confirmed that remakes of older Assassin's Creed games are coming, saying, "Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich." However, Guillemot clarified that the series will have more gameplay variety between entries.

While the goal is to release more Assassin's Creed games regularly, he said that they won't be the exact same experience every year. He uses the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows and Assassin's Creed Hexe as examples. "There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin's Creed Hexe, which we've announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin's Creed Shadows," he explained. "We're going to surprise people, I think."

A remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is reportedly in the works, codenamed Obsidian, and that would line up with the new direction the series is going, if it exists. However, it's also reportedly not going to be released for a few years as its in early development.

2023's Assassin's Creed Mirage was made to have a style and setting similar to the very first Assassin's Creed, with modern touches. Now it looks like Ubisoft is taking it one step further and remaking them.

How is Ubisoft the only company that can take one step forward and then twenty steps back?

As someone whos replayed each game in the series multiple times, 1 and 2 could use a soft remake due to outdated controls, pacing, and graphics, but 4 is already a technical masterpiece; only really needs a new coat of paint.

Yeah, make a Black Flag 2 to make up for the disaster that was Skull & Bones..

I have no hopes they will top that.

who asked for remake? that's the most wrong idea regarding remakes I ever saw. my dudes remakes games just because they have no idea what to do anymore. ubisoft doomed to bankrupt if they go to this root lol

instead they should release Prince of Persia Redemption instead of have their projects stay cancelled lol

I mean does anyone even really want this? Assassin’s Creed games are time killers you never revisit.

@chriss_m: I'd play remakes of Altair and Ezio. Not so much interested in 3 and beyond, as they still hold up. But hey... That ship combat was amazing.

@chriss_m: As someone that enjoys the series, and frequents spaces with other fans, yeah a lot of them are clamouring for modern access to the older games. Whilst 4 is one of the ones lower on the list, AC1 and it's spin-offs are definitely up there. Especially a full remake of it, given how dated the gameplay is.

Personally I would rather that they put their effort into new titles, but can see the argument to getting games like Bloodlines into a place where they can be played by modern audiences concerned with the full story of the series.

@Musicsvictim: I really don’t understand it. In working my way through the series at the minute (I’m at Syndicate). And I really don’t understand why fans would want them to waste time remaking the games. A simple remaster would be fine - and allow them to focus on making new games.

@doublem-k: I couldn't agree more, everything is oh a collection of games from 20 years ago NOW in 4k for 50 dollars. GONE are the days of originality, ps2/gamecube era, last year's of game innovation.
