If you're only interested in Call of Duty: Black Ops III's multiplayer mode and want to play on PC, Activision has a new offering for you. A new, multiplayer-only version of the shooter launched today on Steam for $15.

Dubbed the Black Ops III Multiplayer Starter Pack, the game lets you play online multiplayer and access features like the Weapon Paint Shop, Gunsmith, Arena, Freerun, Theater, and the Black Market microtransaction store. What's missing is the campaign and Zombies mode, while you also cannot advance past level 55 and "Prestige," if that's what you're interested in.

Starter Pack players can purchase Black Ops III DLC pass content, but will only have access to multiplayer maps, and not anything for Zombies.

You can upgrade to the full version of Black Ops III (standard or deluxe) whenever you want. The $15 you paid for the Starter Pack will be automatically deducted, bringing the price down to $45.

The Starter Pack is available only on PC and will be sold until February 29. Activision did not say if it plans to release a similar offering for the console versions of Black Ops III. GameSpot has followed up with Activision in an attempt to get more details.

Features NOT included in the Multiplayer Starter Pack:

  • Zombies game mode
  • Campaign game mode
  • Ability to play in Multiplayer custom games
  • Ability to Prestige (your level will be capped at 55 in the Starter Pack)
  • Access to mod tools or modded content (once released)
  • Access to unranked server browser (once released)
  • Ability to Fresh Start your profile
  • The ability to access Dead Ops Arcade II and Nightmares mode

Seeing as 90% of people only play COD for its multiplayer id say this is a good option !! Id have bought into this back in the day as me and my friends played a lot of COD online

@ltjohnnyrico: Yeah, but you don't get any prestige and can't get beyond lvl 55, kinda defeats the purpose of endgame in mp. They see that those things are worth the useless campaign(that they've ruined every new release).

@maitkarro: Can still Play MP though .. on the Modern Warfares I got to 10th prestige and then after that didn't bother could still play the game and have fun with my Pals online .. and its only $15 so for a cut price we cant really expect all the features !! Just saying a lot of people would have gone for that back in the day .. as lets face we don't play COD for the campaign !!

That is actually pretty cool. I usually do not care much for COD games, but the playing the multiplayer on it can be enjoyable. For $15 USD I am pretty open to buying it, I just never really was interested in buying a COD game over $30 USD. Always hated prestige anyway, so that doesn't bother me in the slightest. My quarrel with it was mainly how I felt about the changes every year and the price tag that came with it.

@myhomieyoda: Depends I say given the game/developer, but for devs/publishers like EA and the like I would agree. As to what I mean on the first point I am more referencing games like Red Orchestra 2(Dedicated servers and a strong playerbase years later). I would include Rainbow Six Siege as I think it is a fantastic game, but I honestly I can't see how the community could keep the multiplayer alive once the official servers go down(Matchmaking is necessary to that game imo).

Dang. This is the way to do multiplayer only. Really makes that $60 price tag on Evolve, Battlefront, etc. look even more ridiculous.
