The Xbox Series S version will render the game at 4K, although you'll have to settle for a 30fps experience on the more moderately-specced console. Anyone who bought Mortal Shell on PS4 and Xbox One will receive the upgrade for free, and for new players the price will be $30.

If you'’re keen to pay a little bit extra, a special physical edition will be out at participating retailers and includes the game, a reversible cover, art postcards, and a 140-page artbook for $40.

Mortal Shell launched last year on the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, and PS4, and offers a great take on the Souls formula. In our Mortal Shell review, critic Phil Hornshaw wrote, "Mortal Shell makes for a strong introduction to Souls-likes, a demonstration for new players of what so many have found so interesting about From Software's games and those like them."

I never really like the souls clone games. They don't play differently enough to feel like a fresh take, nor does the art design stand out enough to look different. It's either gritty medieval, Feudal japan, generic medieval, or a style that uses WAY too much gray & brown (Which I don't know who in the Sam hell thinks, "grey and brown equals more realistic". It's actually more unrealistic.). And they all just blend in together when you compare them to the souls games. And to make things worse, the souls games made by Formsoft feel more different. And they all run on the same engine with the same animations, sound effects, and art style.

(Fun fact: the medieval ages were actually much more colorful. Due to the popularity of dyes back in the day. Especially the bright middle eastern and Indian ones.),

@illegal_peanut: The Surge is a Soulsbourne that really breaks the mold.

@thecupidstunts: what was the problem? Souls like burnout?

@santinegrete: same for me. I wanted so much to like it but honestly it's so much like dark souls that I would just rather play dark souls. The enemy placement is whack as well, nothing but ganks around every corner.

@santinegrete: I think it really was Souls fatigue. It felt so much like Dark Souls, (although really stripped back), and I just couldn't stay with it.

@thecupidstunts: I had the same experience. I couldn't put my finger on what it was lacking, but it just was. Played for a couple hours and just didn't go back. Also the environments felt very generic and it was hard to tell how to get from one place to another. So I was running in circles a lot of the time. The Souls games just do an excellent job of creating inter-connected worlds.
