More Details On Mass Effect: Andromeda's EA/Origin Access Trial Revealed

BioWare confirms that the Xbox One and PC trial's single-player is limited.

The 10-hour EA/Origin Access trial for Mass Effect: Andromeda will let you play as much multiplayer as you want, but the single-player is limited, BioWare has confirmed.

"You can play it all in [single-player] if you want, but it is gated (you can't [continue] story after a point, but can explore or restart for [example])," producer Fernando Melo said on Twitter (via Eurogamer).

No Caption Provided

This is standard for EA/Origin Access trials. For example, Battlefield 1's trial provided unlimited access to the multiplayer (for a certain period of time), but only a few single-player missions.

The EA/Origin Access trial for Andromeda will become available on March 16 for Xbox One and PC, five days before Andromeda comes out on March 21. No version of EA Access is available on PlayStation 4.

In other news, Melo shared a new image from Andromeda's multiplayer. This picture shows the new feature, Missions, which connect single-player and multiplayer. Take a look:

Andromeda's multiplayer beta has been canceled, though people who attend PAX East this week can give it a try.

We also recently learned Andromeda's multiplayer will feature packs containing items that can be unlocked through gameplay or by spending real money.

So will the 10 hours I play carry over to the full game or will I have to start over?

@spinierblaked: my guess is it will carry over. Pretty sure that's how the other access trial games have worked.

@scottyp360: yeah, they've previously said as with dragon age inquisition where they did the same thing, this will also carry over. it'll basically be a small bundle of code that turns your game off once you get to 10 hours, that gets patched out once the game comes out.

ok so if I understand this correctly you can play up to a certain point in the story, and/or as much multiplayer as you want, as long as whatever you do amounts to no more than 10-hours? or is it more like the 10 hours is how much story content you get and you can just play till launch?

@renfairreject: Its 10 hours total. SO if spend 8 hours in MP and 2 hours in the Cmapaign that they let you play your time is up. Or you could just play 10 hours MP. Or 10 Hours Campaign, but most likely you will be playing the same section over and over again.

The story content you get will probably just be the first couple missions, and I wouldnt thtink anymore. Like for BF1 it was just the the opening section, and then the tank mission and that was it.

Since this is a story heavy game that focuses more on the single player experience and there are a lot of people that are going to play this game for that experience, it is not wise to have MP affect the outcome of SP. Mass Effect 3 did that. While it isn't that big of a deal to get in and do a match or two everyday, it still takes away the freedom to steer clear of MP if the player just wants the full SP experience and perhaps doesn't like MP.

In short: MP should not be forced down the throat of SP completionists regardless of how awesome it may be developed by Bioware.

Note: While it is not certain that the two are thus linked, the post gave me that impression.

@Zoberk: It sounds like MP experience will have a very minimal effect on SP. And they've said it won't impact the story in any way.

@spinierblaked: so far they've said that while your mp experience wont have any effect on the story itself, it will have an effect on the mp, and vice versa. They didn't really go into detail, but they did say that you'll be able to unlock resources for your single player playthrough in the multiplayer, as well as the same for the inverse (multiplayer resources from the single player). nothing that precludes you from, or makes it more difficult to proceed in the story, only things like weapons, parts, crafting materials, that kind of thing.

also they hinted that there would be a co-op mode where you (on your single player character) could capture bases with others (on their single player character). but that was just a rumor, and has yet to be confirmed.

People are focusing too much on the PS4 thing when you SHOULD be focusing on the "buy a sub just to play a demo" thing. That's a dick move no matter what platform you play it on.

@Barighm: Ummmm...who is subscribing to EA Access just for this? I have been a member since it launched, it is fantastic. the discount alone on EA games has already paid for my sub. Anyway, blame Sony. They said it is not a good value.

@Barighm: I mean, if you can't wait the extra 5 days for the game to come out and want to spend the $4, that's up to you. You also won't just have access to andromeda but also all the other game trials and vault games. I don't think you could find a person that wouldn't say that's a good deal in return from what many people pay for their morning coffee.

@Barighm: You can play 40 games in the EA vault too. EA access is a very good deal.

Personally, i think it's a big mistake on not having a Public Multiplayer Beta cause now it will just be plagued with issues at launch not to mention those still on fence about the Game will more then likely stay that way, which could of changed if they could of gotten a hands on experience.

I'm gonna give this Mass Effect a fair try, even though im still very salty about Mass Effect 3's ending and various other things. If this one flops like ME3 did along with the very, very bland Dragon Age: Inquisition then i'm not gonna bother with the next two ME Installments since this is suppose to be another Trilogy, they better go all out with it.

@Ravanofdarkness: You know dozens of multiplayer games are released without issue every year that don't have an open beta, right?

@Ravanofdarkness: to be fair, as far as I remember they didn't do a beta for the MP in me3 either and that turned out fine. then again I didn't play it at launch.

Also, my best guess is that theyre assuming that most people go to the single player 1st, thus alleviating the stress on the multiplayer servers.
