More Details About Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens' Main Villain

SPOILERS!! JJ Abrams reveals more details and backstory for the character Kylo Ren.

THIS POST CONTAINS STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - THE FORCE AWAKENS SPOILERS

Director JJ Abrams has shared new information about the main villain of the much-anticipated upcoming sci-fi movie, Star Wars: Episode VII -- The Force Awakens.

He tells Empire that Kylo Ren, the lightsaber-wielding bad guy shown in the first trailer, is "not a Sith." Instead, "He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force."

No Caption Provided

Snoke is a digital character played by Andy Serkis. He has extensive experience in playing those types of characters in The Lord of the Rings franchise as Gollum and Planet of the Apes as a primate.

Also in the interview, Abrams shared further details about the nature and origins of the evil First Order, to which Kylo Ren--played by Girls actor Adam Driver--belongs. The director likened this group to Nazis.

"That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’" Abrams said. "What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn't get done?"

Kylo Ren is also featured on the new Force Awakens poster.

The Force Awakens opens in theaters on December 18. According to poster artist Drew Struzan, it's possibly the best Star Wars movie ever made.

I don't like Star Wars but the fact that the main villain is a digital character really depresses me.

@BIGFELLAH26: Ah but what if he's some kind of ancient Sith spirit who seeks to return to the flesh?

That could be cool, and would explain why hes digital, Don't give up yet buddy, Kylo Ren's still a real boy :D

@ltjohnnyrico: Of course they don't. They probably just love to complain and add to the seven billion identical comments on every article that doesn't involve video games. It's honestly getting old.

Lets get it right, Darth Vader is not a martyr for the Sith, If anything he's the shitist Sith that ever existed!!!

List of accomplishments

-Lost both his legs and arms in Lightsaber duels. NOT A PRO.

-Supposedly hunted the Jedi order to near extinction, In fact killed a room full of toddlers.

-Fucked up protecting the Death Star, TWICE!!!

-Fucked up capturing Luke, Even though he was 3 feet away and disarmed....literally lol

-Sells Han Solo to the Hutts, Seriously **** Fett, Use him as a trap to lure Luke numb nuts.

-Doesn't buy/take back Han Solo from the Hutts, Or even wait on Tatooine to create said trap.

-Loses to a Jedi with practically no fighting skill, Seriously Luke goes at him like he's holding a god damn baseball bat. I never saw Yoda teach him ANYTHING about Lightsaber combat and given the height difference it was probably best XD

-Betrays his Master, Now while usually considered a good thing within Sith ranks, Betraying your master to return to the Light Side is a serious fucking no no.

No disrespect to Vader, I love him he's a classic villain and an awesome character. But if your looking at this objectively universe-wise, Y'know for picking the new poster boy for the ENTIRE SITH!!!

He's the imbecile that brung both balance to the force and the END OF THE EMPIRE!!!

@redeemer6666: Most of the points that you made are generic villain mistakes but I do agree that he isn't as powerful as everyone think he is. He's a guy who rely on a life support system, has a very limited lightsaber moves and force powers, and pretty much end up being the lap dog to other people. (Tarkin and Sedious) Neither his fellow Imperial moffs nor rival rebel leaders has any respect for him, they insult him right to the face. Death count? He only killed an old guy who just LET him kill him, and some helpless admirals with not defence. Not to mention he has no official rank in the Imperial Hierarchy; While Sidious remain on top as the Emperor, Vader really is nothing but a remnant of an old religion.

@redeemer6666: Vader destroyed an entire planet full of people. That's gotta count for something.

I don't get why saving Luke redeemed him enough to be good at the end. Killing someone that's going to kill your only son is just human nature. I don't think it makes up for eradicating am entire planet of people.

@godmachine0603: Why thank you, I just thought using Vader as martyr is a tad little silly.

The Emperor would make a better one, He started the empire and was cruelly murdered by his own apprentice....well in the Empires view anyway :D

@redeemer6666: Because Vader didn't want to hurt Luke. He didn't want to kill him and he was having doubts aboout his place.

"Supposedly hunted the Jedi order to near extinction, In fact killed a room full of toddlers."

He did and that's a big feat, a dark one.

"Fucked up protecting the Death Star, TWICE!!!"

Thing is, only a few people know what happens on the Deathstar the second time. Vader failed because Han Solo helped and he was focusing on Luke Skywalker.

"Fucked up capturing Luke, Even though he was 3 feet away and disarmed....literally lol"

He wanted to convert Luke to the Dark Side. He was trying to make him come to his side. It's his son so he won't go all out.

"Sells Han Solo to the Hutts, Seriously **** Fett, Use him as a trap to lure Luke numb nuts."

Why Fett wanted Solo and at the time he tested the Carbon Freezing him. He honestly didn't care and Vader had different plans.

"Doesn't buy/take back Han Solo from the Hutts, Or even wait on Tatooine to create said trap."

Umm why would he even care about Solo. He wouldn't care. SECONDLY, Tatooine would bring too many dark memories. It's where his mother died. He wouldn't want to go there. Do you even think?

-"Betrays his Master, Now while usually considered a good thing within Sith ranks, Betraying your master to return to the Light Side is a serious fucking no no."

Nobody except Sidious, Vader and Luke Skywalker know about that. NOBODY ELSE so how would others no and the story is about his redemption.

I mean seriously all your beefs seem so fucking stupid. Your *whining* and I do mean whining since I see you are is just so short sighted. Vader was actually a decent and very ruthless Sith. When it comes to family he relents. That's a very human thing.

@aeluron1989: Doesn't change the fact what I said is true, As a Sith he sucks.

If you was a Sith you'd see it the same. He fucked up, Simple.

And pretty sure Luke would have told his fathers redemption story.

And I'm completely right about my trap idea, Your just being a dunce. Too many dark memories.........for a Sith!!! Do YOU even think?

And tbh what part of objectively don't you understand?

Stop being a complete fanboy and take satire less seriously, Ok?

Maybe Vader's legend doesn't include all that stuff, only the impressive stuff? That's how legends of people often go.

@Arsyad00: About to get a bit nerdy here.

Lightsabers do not slide on eachother once connected. They make contact and then "lock." There's no need for a cross guard. That being said, his lightsaber isn't as contained as the others in the movies so perhaps their vent things (though would probably be more beneficial at an angle smaller than 90 degrees.

Perhaps it's a made up fighting style though, like Dooku's curved hilt for stabbing.

@Sefrix watch the fight with old obi wan and vader, obi wan goes for his hand a few times. doesn't have to slid down the blade in order for a guard to be needed.

If he's not Sith then that means he could be a potential good guy! There have been plenty of bad guys, even Jedi, that change allegiances. Typically Sith are evil by nature and really never change.

@madgame23: The actual Sith that were evil by nature actually died off long before the point where the Star Wars movies start. The "Sith" now are actually other species that just follow the Sith religion. I'm not sure why the new villain uses a light saber if he doesn't follow the Sith religion though.

Oh wait, I forgot, now that Disney owns Star Wars, nothing is considered part of the cannon anymore.
