More Details About Gears of War Creator's Next Game Coming This Week

[UPDATE] See a teaser trailer for Cliff Bleszinski's next game right here, right now.

[UPDATE] Boss Key continues to tease Project Bluestreak today with a new video titled "After The Shattering." Take a look at the 30-second video below and let us know what you think. More reveals are scheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday.

The original story is below.

New details about the next game from Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski are coming soon.

Bleszinski and his company, Boss Key, on Sunday launched a new teaser website for the free-to-play PC FPS, Project Bluestreak. The site is labeled "The Shattering," but Bleszinski says on Twitter that it may not be the game's actual name.

Whatever the case, the website teases that more details about the shooter, which will be published by free-to-play giant Nexon America, will be announced at 12 Noon EDT / 9 AM PDT on August 24, 25, and 26.

"Trust me, folks--buckle up," Bleszinski said on Twitter. "I am so excited right now. :) :) :)"

The Shattering website also features an "Alpha Testers" tab, suggesting Boss Key will let people play the game early for the purposes of testing. You can also check out some new art, which features a world city destroyed by...something. Perhaps the mysterious "The Shattering" is to blame.

No Caption Provided

As previously announced, Project Bluestreak is set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world. Boss Key released the first pre-alpha footage for the game, which runs on Unreal Engine 4, during PAX East back in April.

For more on the game, you can check out some weapon concept art and read Bleszinski's thoughts about the free-to-play business model and how his new game won't be pay-to-win.

No release date for Project Bluestreak has been announced. For more, check out the interview below.

All this teasing is done really badly and makes people annoyed instead of hyped.

Yeah, the "video" (two stills, plus 30sec of audio) doesn't accomplish anything other than "wait til Wednesday."

That's actually NOT an effective marketing practice. It annoys, rather than excites.

The 30-second video only had 6 seconds (no joke) of footage, and it was just some rubble. I get no impression about the game or what its about.

I hope it's not another one of those throw away online shooters with no story or campaign.

I'd rather just buy the game outright and experience the full shebang over F2P. Only way their going to make money from me.

Big fan of Unreal (especially 1998) and Gears, so naturally I am excited to see what this is all about.

The fact it's free to play means it'll be shit......and even if it's not 100% shit in the end it'll be enough to mire it......what's so hard about making a straight up UT style arena shooter? seems like an epic fail waiting to happen.....

Well at least it has a really easy name to mock by replacing an 'A' with an 'I'

Cool. I'm not a PC gamer but I'm very interested in seeing what this new game is like. I think Cliff is quite talented and Gears of War was fantastic.

More a Quake guy than Unreal, but any old school shooter is better than none.

Unreal Tournament vs this. Exciting times. But I really don't see this or any shooter topping the upcoming UT: Made by Fans and Devs.

I would love to see a home console that goes back to cartridges. The only advantage that optical media has over mask ROM is storage, and even then that advantage is getting less and less relevant. The 3DS has games over 3GB and it has been said that it can go up to 8GB, so what's stopping a next-gen home console from reaching 16GB? The only thing that would require more space than that is excessive amounts of uncompressed audio and video (mostly interactive movies)

On the other hand, there are the following advantages:

- Much faster (less loading times)

- More durable system and games, no moving parts (no more disk read errors)

- Less power consumption and noise

- The ability to build in additional electronics (think about the Super FX in SNES games or the IR reader in Pokemon HGSS, for instance)

- Saves on cartridges

- Cartridges, damnit! http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2011/10/1230-game-cartridges.jpg

@Megaman_Omega: The world is going full digital, dude. External hard drives offer better value gig-by-gig than flash, and download speeds keep improving, so it only makes more sense to expand digital and then give gamers more storage options.

@Megaman_Omega: My 64GB SD card cost 35 quid. I don't fancy that kinda markup on games over a 10p bluray disc :) Let's all just pray SSD gets cheap enough for the next consoles to bother using it.

And what's this post got to do with The Shittyring?

@Barighm: Of course, any game with a F2P price model is basically saying "I don't have the confidence to charge money upfront". Cliffy has stated "everything you can buy can also be earnt" but as Warframe showed me, I was very happy grinding away, until I realised that £2 of platinum made up for about 30hrs of "free" gameplay. Takes the fun out of the grind if it's so cheap to bypass, know what I mean? I'd rather have paid £20 upfront and put the time in, and been recognised and rewarded for that. Paying money for better stuff faster appeals to peoples darker sides, vanity and desire to win. Not great traits.

Just charge money and give us a game, if it's worth it, it'll do well. F2P is always a cover for lacklustre quality or gameplay. After I paid in Warframe to see what I got, I never played it again.

@Megaman_Omega: Carts would be good but that is not going to happen. Games on Blu-ray can get to 50GB way beyond what a Cart can do. So it is not going to happen.

Man honestly the best game ever could come out as a F2P and half the GS readers would just say "F2P, no thanks"

I know it sucks getting free games guys, we just have to power through and keep buying $70 games with $50 worth of DLC, that's the smart move.

Meanwhile one of the funnest games I got to demo this year was Dreadnought, a F2P 5v5 space and land ship combat game with great mechanics and a strong need for strategic teamwork, with only aesthetic marketplace items, all ships unlocked, no P2W guns or ships.

@mesome713: There are plenty of good F2P games out there, the thing the ruins them is when they are pay to win.

You do know that there are plenty of F2P games they could have easily sold right? you know that some F2P games were previously games you had to buy (TF2) right? if it's a good game it's a good game, two letters with a number in the middle (F2P) isn't going to make a game bad.

I'm like every other gamespot commenter, so even if it's free, I'm so jaded, discerning, important and pressed for time that there's no way I could squeeze in a download and an hour of game play to see if it's any damned good.

@solinvictus: On commenters being correct: Every comment in every forum on every website in the history of the internet always has been and always will be inherently correct. Gamespot commenters are certainly no exception to this immutable law of nature.

+1 and kudos for detecting sarcasm. It's an underdeveloped and largely unexplored internet skill.

@solinvictus: F2P is F2P because they know it will draw a lot of users, look at the most owned games on PC, F2P, F2P doesn't mean bad quality, people who say so are just like all the others, they see it's a popular statement and have to follow suit, 90% of GS readers are like lemmings, just following the one who came before them.
