Max Payne Writer And Model Can Still Pull The Face Perfectly, 19 Years Later

Max Payne came out 19 years ago, and writer Sam Lake--whose face was plastered onto the character--can still do a perfect scrunch.

Max Payne is 19 years old as of July 23, 2020, and the much-loved shooter is well-remembered for its slow-time, Matrix-inspired shooting, its great, melancholy script, and the scrunched-up face that Max wears throughout the game. Sam Lake, who is still with developer Remedy, is responsible for those last two--he was the game's writer and the model for Max's face.

Now, to celebrate the game's birthday, Lake has taken to Twitter to fulfill a frequent fan request and, once again, "do the face."

Now Playing: From Max Payne To Control, What Inspires Remedy Entertainment?

You can see the face below, and speculate on how Max might look if we ever get a Max Payne 4 with Remedy at the helm.

For comparison, here's Max's face from the 2001 classic.

Lake was recently a credited writer and worked on the concept for Control. He also wrote Alan Wake, which will crossover with Control in an upcoming DLC.

Max Payne, unfortunately, dropped this face after the first game--and the character looked very different by the Rockstar-developed Max Payne 3.

Too bad it's Rockstar and 2k sitting on the IP. They've probably done the math that a Max Payne Online would not bleed cash out of idiots.

Also a shame because Remedy can't reference the series directly in their newer games, just easter eggs.

@sbargovox3: I say leave the franchise alone forever. Maybe do a remaster collection bundle thing of all three games? Like the uncharted collection perhaps. But that's it. Don't further tarnish it please by making a online only multiplayer only micro transactions stupid thing lol. Just my opinion lol.

@goldenageplayer: I don't think Rockstar/2k thinks there's enough money to be made in a Max Payne remaster collection. Mind you, what they think is enough money is whatever insane, ungodly amounts GTA Online pulls in.

So like I said, they will just sit on the IP until the sun dies out.

I always figured the reason why Solid Snake has no eyes on PS1 is because they were afraid of it looking like, well, Max Payne Face.
