Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite Officially Announced

First Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite gameplay to be shown at Capcom Cup.

Capcom has announced Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite. The game made its official debut during Sony's press conference at PlayStation Experience 2016. As previous reports suggested, the latest entry in the all-star fighting game will arrive in 2017.

The trailer shown at the event opened with Mega Man and Ryu partnering up to face off against Iron Man. The two fire projectiles together, as Ryu runs in while charging himself up. Both Mega Man and Ryu grab the Infinity Stones out of the air.

Now Playing: Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite PSX 2016 Teaser Trailer

These incredibly powerful stones are an ongoing plot thread in Marvel's Cinematic Universe and also harken back to Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes, in which players collected the stones to boost attributes during fights.

The trailer continues with Captain Marvel appearing to join Iron Man's side. Previous reports suggested that this new Marvel Vs. Capcom would draw heavily from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and won't feature the X-Men. This is yet to be confirmed, but Captain Marvel is one of the characters set to have her own movie in the future.

The video ends by confirming Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The first gameplay will be shown during the Capcom Cup.

"For the last two decades, Marvel Vs. Capcom has been one of the most celebrated franchises among fans," said Marvel Entertainment's executive producer Mike Jones. "To deliver on that legacy, we've worked closely with Capcom to create a game that honors the heritage of the series and combines Marvel's unique brand of storytelling with Capcom's world-class gameplay. We’re raising the bar with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and are excited for players to get their hands on it next year."

"It was deeply inspiring for our development team to join forces again with Marvel and we can't wait for our fans to experience the benefits of that collaboration first hand," added Michael Evans, director of production for Capcom USA. "With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, our goal is to provide memorable experiences and infinite gameplay possibilities for players of all skill levels."

Capcom has also released an overview of the game's features, revealing the new game is 2v2 instead of the traditional 3v3 format.

Check out the full details below.

  • Reborn Rivalries: Universes collide once again in this all-new crossover clash for the ages, where players select their favorite Marvel and Capcom characters and engage in accessible and free-form 2v2 team battles, which allow for new gameplay dynamics never-before-seen in the franchise.
  • Infinite Power: Choose one of the six powerful Infinity Stones from the Marvel Universe to influence the outcome of battle. Each Infinity Stone will customize characters with unique abilities and powerful game-changing effects that can quickly turn the tide of battle.
  • Iconic Heroes: Select from a diverse roster of fan favorite characters pulled from the Marvel and Capcom Universes, including Captain Marvel and Iron Man from the Marvel side, and Ryu and Mega Man X from Capcom. Many more playable characters will be revealed in the future.
  • Cinematic Story: Heroes and villains battle for supremacy in a timeless struggle set in the Marvel and Capcom universes. The original storyline answers the questions regarding the new clash and lets players step into the shoes of classic characters from both sides as they wage war against powerful forces in an attempt to defeat a new villain.
  • Accessible Single Player Content: In addition to the cinematic story experience, players can hone their skills in a variety of accessible single player modes, including Training, Mission, and Arcade modes.
  • Vast Multiplayer Features: Robust online modes and content including ranked and casual matches, global leaderboards, and online lobbies with spectator mode deepen the overall experience.
  • Graphics: Unreal Engine 4 technology pushes the cinematic visuals and next-gen realism into a new era.

As part of the announcement, it was also confirmed that Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will be available to download and play on PS4 today. It will then follow on Xbox One and PC in March 2017.

I mention it before and I will said it again, Please give us the traditional 3 punch and 3 kick button layout. Not that awful button layout that you implemented for Marvel VS Capcom 3

@angrycreep: And I mention it again. Spiderman doesnt spend time thinking which of the 3 kung-fu punches he should use

Depth is good but no reason to turn this into Tekken. Superpowers are the point

I need Venom, Captain Commando, Jin Saotome and some other Street Fighter characters outside Chun-Li/Akuma/Ken/Sakura xD Maybe some of the other Darkstalkers too--Talbain, Lord Raptor, etc.

i'm not surprised if this game hasn't made for the nintendo switch considering capcom trying to support them, imaged playing on the go (if you don't plan playing online multiplayer) and challenge others or your friend, while seeing them face to face. the feel in this game like street fighter v, consider they using unreal engine 4 to do it, i'm glad it's coming to pc, if only i have a shield android tv box, would have stream this from my computer, hopefully the "switch" could do this too, if nintendo lets nvidia add the "shield hub" app.

I heard a rumor where Marvel will not be bringing any X-Men to this (only characters from their Marvel multi-verse movies), if that's the case iconic characters such as Wolverine, Magneto, Sentinel, Sabertooth, Rogue, Cyclops, Phoenix, Ice-man, Colossus (and the list goes on and on...) will not be present which is a huuuuuuuuuge bummer. I won't say this will keep me from playing the game but it will definitely keep me from purchasing at release or even pre-order, I rather wait a few months where the price will drop to $19.99 for this game.

@activeme4u2: I don't know why you still stuck with X-men when there are so many other great characters from the Marvel Universe that will make the game just as good.

@angrycreep: I don't disagree with you, but (to me) it doesn't feel right not having core chars present like Magneto and Wolverine. Plus, what can I say? I'm a fan :)

@activeme4u2: Well honestly last episode only had Wolverine, Storm, Jean Grey, Magneto, X-23 and Sentinel. No idea why X-23 made the cut and Sentinel is just a running overpowered joke like Shuma-Gorath. Then there was Deadpool who really doesnt want to be identified with any group

Would be cool if they had more (Cyclops would be very close to maining) but if they cut X-men to that 4 its not that big deal. Sure Magneto needs a doubles partner, but he's not that picky if it benefits him. Vulture anyone? Another old gramps with big grudges and resources. Or maybe Kingpin. Or he can always lure Phoenix to the dark side

On the other hand if focus on Marvelverse means we get Daredevil, Black Panther, Luke Cage, Ultron... not a bad thing

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: Yep, you're right but considering the rumor to be true Magneto and Wolverine which are in since the first game are getting cut. It just annoys me a bit for Marvel to completely drop all X-Men. I grew up in the 90s (I was born in 83) so characters like Cage, Punisher, Daredevil, Jessica, Star Lord, RR, Groot (which we all love this one) were not around as much as X-Men and Spidey were. So I guess that's why it bothers me more than it should.

@owlcoholic: Only if Disney (Viacom) gets the rights to them from Fox. That's really all it is. Sadly though this also includes Deadpool. But, at least we get Spiderman!

Finally a game I can't complain about or ignore. MvC3 was excellent, just needed a lot more content. Hope this time the plot is an actual plot and there are more modes than just training and versus. Ofc roster is a big deal too, loss of X-men would be bad but anyway I think only Magneto mattered to me, but since Doc Strange will probably be in the game he's a decent replacement.

And pls have old Dante

This is actually good for competitive scene, more randomness in fights. Some of us just can't afford to quit their jobs to get gut at a game.

Such awesome news! That end boss at the end of the trailer looked like it could be a mashup of Ultron and Sigma. Looking forward to see some gameplay footage at the Capcom Cup. I'm also extremely happy that current gen systems are getting Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 even though I have to wait until March 2017 for the Xbox One version.

I'm so glad its not ps4 exclusive! I'll be buying it for xbox one cause I only buy exclusives on ps4. Gotta keep the hdd in check. I don't feel like upgrading it again. My Xone has a 4TB, I'm good for a couple years.

Nah. More like using infinity stones (purple and green) from the looks of it.

If grabbing Infinity Stones for powerups is an actual mechanic, I'm going to be soooooo disappointed if there aren't any Power Stone representatives.
