Looks Like CW's Powerpuff Girls Reboot Has Begun Shooting

Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have suited up to begin filming the rebooted pilot.

The CW has begun shooting the pilot for its upcoming Powerpuff Girls live-action series, according to a report from TMZ. Filming for the series, simply titled "Powerpuff," is underway in Atlanta. TMZ's photo gallery shows actors Chloe Bennett, Yana Perrault, and Dove Cameron, who respectively play Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles for the show, in full Powerpuff regalia. [Update: The CW has revealed that the Powerpuff Girls pilot is being redone in order to make it less campy.]

Donald Faison, who will play Powerpuff creator Professor Utonium, waves to the photographer in one photo, as well. These are set production shots, so things are pretty raw, with Bennett's flight harness ropes clearly visible in the photos. Not spotted in any of the photos is Nicholas Podany, who will be playing the live-action version of Powerpuff villain Mojo Jojo.

The show picks up with the girls in their mid-twenties, disillusioned by a childhood of crime fighting and estranged from Professor Utonium. Sounds like HBO Max's Titans, but with bright colors and fewer Batman-related swears.

Right now, Powerpuff is only set for a pilot, and has not yet been sent to series. Diablo Cody (Juno) and Heather Regnier (Sleepy Hollow) are writing and producing the series, along with CW stalwarts like Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. There's no word yet on when--or if--we'll see the Powerpuff pilot.

WOW! That looks bad.

Like I've seen fanart concepts and ideas that looked way better than this.

I'm still confounded that this is considered a good idea.

One would think if they were going for a sequel to the PPG they would continue with using animation. Hell just look at Samurai Jack's continuation with how well received it was. It had the ability to appeal to both the younger and older audience and even explore more mature themes without compromising the core of the show.

Hell I bet this decision was made by someone who still thinks animation is for children only. We've moved well passed that with adult (Or just general) animation not just being a small part on adult swim or something. Would love to see more adult animated series out there.

Doesn't have to be in the same Faust style or even traditional animation either. Just some form of animation as I feel like when CG gets added to this live action version it will look a bit (Or very) odd.

Is Mojo-JoJo the one with the mask?

Chloe Bennett will forever be my Sky/Daisy/Quake.

@johnny0779: Same. :) Only reason I'd even remotely give this a chance is because of Chloe being cast in it.

@davillain-: well we already got hyper realistic mario in the 80s movie so why no.

but to me it sounds really weird theyre talking about reboot, i see an picture in the article and wonder why did they do cosplay for voice acting roles. can it be reboot if its entirely different thing? was super mario movie a reboot or resident evil movies a reboot

I would think it obvious that they're going to apply CG to this. These may not even be the final pre-CG costumes. As the article says, this is super early in the process. Honestly, kind of surprised how many people on a video game forum don't seem to know about CG.

How, in the F*cking F*CK, are they making this stuff?

Look at that picture... It's the most ridiculous thing I've seen since the Dead or Alive movie.

I honestly believe the execs at AT&T/Warner look at the HBO rejected pile, pick the worst and say "Yup, This will work on the CW, send it to them."

I puked a little in my mouth seeing 3 grown women in those outfits.

We can only pray the pilot is all there ever is to that monstrosity.

Just finished Titans on HBO Max actually..since it was name dropped above.

S1 was fun, except the Hawk and Dove stuff (big yawn!!). S2 was kind of a hot mess, and because there was more Hawk and Dove and less of the Raven, Starfire and BB, it was less interesting, IMO. Here's hoping we get more of those three in S3, and for the love of God, please no more Hawk and Dove!

@alastor529: Yeah, you're spot on about that last ep of S2. Rushed; just a mess. S3 premieres end of July I believe. They're bringing in more Batman villains - Red Hood, Scarecrow, etc. Sounds like more messy all-over the place stuff. They will also be focusing on Starfire's fam though and the drama introduced in S2, so that could be interesting. I will give S3 a chance at least. I really just want more focus on Raven, Starfire, BB and Robin - not the 'old Titans' that got so much attention in S2, that's just boring.

@christophersays: such a stupid way that “shocking” ending played out if you know what I mean. The emotional payoff wasn’t earned at all.
