Life-Sized Ghostbusters Proton Pack Replica Announced By Hasbro

Who you gonna call? Someone who's ready to spend $400 on this detailed Ghostbusters prop replica.

Ghostbusters proton packs are usually available as either cheap replicas that lack a number of screen-accurate details or expensive kits that take plenty of time and effort to put together. Hasbro may have finally reached the perfect compromise with its latest offering, which is currently up on its crowdfunding website Haslab.

A $400 pledge gets you a proton pack based on Egon Spengler's backpack from Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Hasbro says that it used 3D scans of the movie prop, and the final product will feature detailed weathering, a customizable cyclotron, and the signature sound effects of the unlicensed nuclear accelerator.

The only caveats here seem to be the lack of a traditional Alice-Frame that the original props came mounted on, although it seems like the backpack has space for one to be mounted to one. You'll also need to supply your own neutrona wand, which Hasbro sells separately.

Back off, man. I'm a scientist.
Back off, man. I'm a scientist.

The project currently needs 7,000 people to back it, and at the time of writing this post, it has over 5,000 pledges with 44 days left on the clock. There have been efforts in the past to produce official high-end replicas, with prop company Anovos--now rebranded to Denuo Novo--offering a proton pack kit that cost well over $3,000 and was directly cast from a screen-used "hero" prop.

While you'll have to wait until 2023 for the proton pack to ship--provided that the crowdfunding campaign is successful--there's still time to put together a Ghostbusters outfit at the eleventh hour for Halloween. Just remember, don't cross the streams if you run into any other paranormal exterminators this week.

Despite a big company like Hasbro being behind this, using crowdsourcing in this context for something like this I think is appropriate. Everyone that wants one can get one, and Hasbro knows how many they need to get made to fulfill that instead of making a small amount of them because it's a niche product, and then they're instantaneously scooped up by scalpers the second they go on sale.

About the only negative I think I can say here is that this could end up being shit and you're paying in advance without knowing it.

i want all the non-living objects to be life sized and look like it was used in media like movie, video games and etc. not some 10" action figure.

Kinda figured this was coming when Spengler's neutrona wand had an alternate battery cap that looked like a hook up for the proton pack. Was hoping it would come sooner than 2023 though.

@Thanatos2k: In Gamespot's defense the only reason they do everything nerdy. Is because they would have these massive few days to few week spans of no new content, back in the day. Which made you feel like a crackhead coming back to the site over and over again. For a week just to see the exact same headlines.

Though on the other hand. They don't take the time to cover other games that need the coverage.

@illegal_peanut: When did Ghostbusters become something "nerdy"? It's about as mainstream as it comes.

I haven't seen a single article here about how New World is melting down due to new game breaking exploits discovered each day and it's some of the most compelling gaming related news all week. But hey, we have time to advertise toys. (Or were they paid to!?)

@Thanatos2k: Every time it's Holloween, nerdy and geeky sites usually pull out the ghostbusters merch. Much more then even common retailers. And the only people I know who love to talk about the ghostbusters series are geeks (Note: Just because it was watched by everybody doesn't mean it's not geeky.).

And like I said, "Though on the other hand. They don't take the time to cover other games that need the coverage.". Which that statement is the bane of this entire website.
