Japan game charts: June 19-25

DS: Many people use the train to get around in Japan so there's a lot of down time. Thus, the success of handhelds and games for cell phones. The DS appeals to a wide market here(Japan). I was in a hospital waiting room yesterday (a scary story in itself). Anyway, I saw a guy in his 40's playin Super Mario on his DS lite and young boy playin Digimon. It's still difficult to get a DS lite. 360: They did show a few 360 commercials during the beginning of the World Cup. So, it's not like they've totally given up. But, it is a losing battle. After talking to a few people here. It's not that the gaming population hate the 360. From what I've heard, it's that there aren't any games worth getting here. If they made it region free. Then they'd sell a lot more 360's in Japan. At least many of the ex-pats would buy one. PS2: It rules here. Whether you like it or not. But, Valkyrie does look good.

Thats Japan's charts, they don't matter as much as they used to. More Americans and Europeans buy video games these days. The fact that the 360 hasn't made a dent into the Japanese market just proves No matter how good the games are if the console or product comes out of the (US) they won't buy it.....

Surprise, surprise... the PS2 and DS dominate the Japanese market. Oh, well they can have it. A 6-year-old console and a children's handheld are the consoles of choice in Japan. Sounds ironic and funny at the same time.

it shows that the psp is doing very very good and is not for little kids like the ds,I use to play mario when I was 6 years old,now its time to move for a much better handheld adult console, the PSP,it has sold more than 15 millions, thats great.

I have to come to bat for US here. So what if Xbox360 isn't doing well over there. Japanese are guilty of the "Pride" 7 deadly sin. The main reason IMO, Microsoft fails in Japan is because it's not a Japanese company. Period. Plus, I don't base my game buying decisions on what Japanese gamers think either. Don't forget this is a country where pornographic dating Sims are hugely popular. They are missing out on many great gaming experiences because of their Pride. They will someday come around .. and like the rest of the world, they will see Americans aren't so incompetent after all.

DS is doing very well and PS2 is still going strong in Japan (Valkyrie Profile 2 looks more interesting than FFXII in my opinion) but I reckon 360 will be left in the dust. People say 'wait till Blue Dragon is released' when in reality they also say/said that about DOA4, DOAX2, N3 and Enchanted Arms - and what good did they do? They didn't even cause a ripple in the charts and the mighty Oblivion just doesn't appeal to them. Ninja Gaiden is the killer app for the original Xbox and they still didn't buy it. If the Famitsu popularity polls are anything to go by then the Japanese public are only slightly more interested in the 360 than the PS3, meaning that Microsoft better pray that Wii60 becomes a reality sales wise - it's the only possible way the 360 can at least do well in Japan (Wii will win over there for sure) due to it's lower price....

I'll say WOW another RPG now 360 has two, Oblivion which is more action than an RPG and Blue Dragon.

Just wait till Blue Dragon releases for the 360.

Valkyrie Profile yeah!!! w00t let's hope VP: Lenneth will be worth getting. And umm? A PSP game, lol intriguing. Not that the games are bad (unlike what most of you Nintendo fanboys say) some people who buy a PSP actually use it's other feautures instead of games (which is kinda dumb).

In the middle of playing Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. Got it as soon as it came out here in Japan. Probably one of my fave PS2 RPG. I'm certainly enjoying it much more than I did when I played FFX. I knew it would make top seller considering Japan's love for grea RPGs. I'll play this game to death probably just like I did with the original game on the first PS. Now can't wait till Persona 3 which I'm sure will be excellent too. PS2 will live on even after the Wii and PS3 comes out here IMO.

Valkyrie just looks awesome and the ds games are on the chart as always.

Of coures Nin and Sony will take almost every top 10 charts games, good luck if MS can make top 20.

Ho hum. The only interesting thing this week in Japan is Silmeria's taking of the top spot and the PSP game making it onto the list. Japan's sales basically say once again "DS! DS! DS! PS2! PS2! PS2!", as if that's any different from usual.

9997 I bet in Japan the console war will be Sony vs. Nintendo. Msoft will have their butts kicked....real hard. Duh. Xbox 360 got outsold by gamecube again although in past weeks, they have been able to outsell the GC by about 200 units. The pattern has been. 125K DS Lite, 25k PS2, 25K PSP, 20K DS, 1.5K Xbox360, 1.2K GC, and about 3 xboxs.

6 ds titles compared to 3 ps2 titles and 1 psp pretty impressive for ps2 and psp seems to be doing better

Except the Valkyrie game to fall off the charts in two weeks. The DS games last and last. Final Fantasy 12 dropped off the charts in two weeks as well.

Im definitely getting Valkyrie Profile Lenneth for PSP and Valkyrie Profile Silmeria for PS2 :D Nice to see PS2 still dominating consoles.

I love how sega makes a game and that equates to sony ripping off nintendo.

Valkyrie Profile thats great the first one for the PS was fun the remake for the PSP looks cool and the second one for the PS2 also looks awesome and to see it on the top charts says that it is.

Yeah I'm actually looking forward to getting Valkyrie Profile Lenneth for the PSP, I've heard the PSone version was pretty awesome. A game like a FFVII remake for the PSP would give the DS some real competition, but lets hope a FFVII remake is done for PS3 for the fans sake.

My friend from sonic team in japan told me that MS just has no chance cause to most japanese gamers they have Nintendo and Sony, they dont need more consoles.
