No Caption Provided

At time of writing the Humble Indie Bundle 8, which was released yesterday, has raised $1,002,383 after being purchased 176,019 times. Included in the bundle, which will be available for two weeks, are indie well-regarded titles Little Inferno, Awesomenauts, Capsized, Thomas Was Alone, and Dear Esther.

Customers who pay above the average purchase price--which currently stands at $5.69--will also get copies of Hotline Miami and Proteus. The games are provided DRM free, and customers who pay more than $1 will get Steam keys for any applicable titles.

Each of the titles featured in the bundle are compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, and soundtracks for every game apart from Hotline Miami are also provided.

Revenue generated from the bundle is split between the developers, the bundle organisers, and charities Child's Play and The Electronic Frontier Foundation. The average purchase price of the bundle currently stands at $5.69.

I'm thankful that bundles like these exist, because indie titles do not belong to Steam. I never understood why taking a perfectly DRM-Free game and infect it with Steam. And presenting it like an advantage to the consumer.

Also long live Desura (and their Indie Royale Bundle), GOG, somewhat GamersGate and every other similar digital store :)

I just bought this and I'm having a problem with Hotline Miami. For whatever reason I'm not seeing any of the text/dialogue at all. I see the pictures of the faces/phone, and it's obvious there's supposed to be text below, but I just don't see anything. I'm running Windows 7 fwiw, and I tried switching the language and messing with the resolution and vsync, reinstalling, but nothing has helped. Nor have I found anything doing a search.

If anyone has had this problem and/or knows how to resolve it, kindly let me know.

FWIW I got it to work. I had downloaded the separate installer, but when I instead redeemed the Steam code, that version worked fine. It actually doesn't look as good because you can't adjust the resolution. But at least the text is there.

I'm happy the Humble Bundle is always successful, it gives PC gaming a very good image. Hotline Miami is fantastic, I highly recommend the pack to everyone just for that game.

Unquestionably reasonable prices, cross-platform, DRM free, Steam compatible (cloud sync w/ achievements).

Tell me again why we need consoles, you can connect a wire to your TV or get a 27 in monitor (I got mine brand new 200 dollars on Black Friday) if you want a big screen.

@abnergoinbig Though, you can also play it on a Mac and there is a Linux version too. Surprisingly, for me at least, the Mac and Linux users make up one third of the ones who've purchased this bundle. I guess smaller indie titles are more friendly towards smaller platforms like Mac and Linux.

@Hurvl @abnergoinbig 0_0 I have Steam on my Mac but was under the impression that most games weren't playable on it.

I hit this up this morning, just for DRM-free versions of Awesomenauts and Thomas Was Alone. I've owned Hotline Miami (DRM-free) via GOG for a while now.

Already own Hotline Miami and Capsized (great games). This is honestly their best bundle in quite some time. REALLY looking forward to getting the entire bundle, especially considering Dear Esther and Proteus are being offered up!

Notch is such a cool dude. He dropped $5000 on this. I went ahead and picked it up to even though only a few games interested me.

@Adavanter sorry, but it's not cool at all that he posts his name next to 5000$ (when he could easily give much more) just so everyone sees what a "cool" guy he is. you know, if it was about giving money and not about being "a cool guy", he could just do it anonymously.

Did you see Bobby Kotick's name up there? Couldnt he afford to drop $500K or so? Did you think that maybe Notch didnt want to drive the average price up so high that it drove customers away?

@Homerj I thought paying above the average lowered the average for the rest of the people, encouraging gamers to pay more than they would "need to" to get all the games. Otherwise, greedy bastards who pay 3 cents or 1 dollar exactly (just for the Steam keys) would bring down the average for all others, which doesn't benefit the purpose of collecting money for charity.

Good point. Although it'd be hilarious to see his name up there. If it was, it'd probably be either a troll or another guy named Bobby Kotick.

@dietc Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know being at the top of the supporter list makes you not a cool guy. Just because the guy makes millions of dollars, doesn't mean he has to give it all away.

Besides he probably donates to other charities on the side like most "rich people". Cut the guy some slack holy cow.

I happily tossed $10 their way. This was the first Humble Bumble that included a collection of games I hadn't mostly already bought on Steam. Save for Little Inferno, they're all new to me.

@SlawekAB @PortalJumper93 I also bought the Alan Wake bundle, for 1,5 dollars. It was all I had left on my paypal account, otherwise I might have given them 2 dollars :P.

These weekly bundle sales, offering more than just indie games, offer great deals. A while back they had a THQ bundle with Darksiders 1 and 2 as well as Red Faction Armageddon and Guerilla. I think the average amount of money to get them all was like 6 dollars, so I gladly paid that. Not that I have time to play them, what with my backlog, but it means I can focus my attention and money on other games when the Steam Summer Sale arrives.
