How Much Bigger Is Nintendo Switch 2? Here's Our First Size Comparison

Based on an official side-by-side comparison, the new Switch 2 looks noticeably bigger than the original.

Nintendo finally, formally took the wraps off the Nintendo Switch 2, giving us our first official look at the new Joy-Con controllers, a new Mario Kart game, and more. But the company also gave us a glimpse at how the size compares to the older Switch system.

A comparison on the official site shows the two consoles side-by-side, and sure enough, the Switch 2 looks noticeably larger, but still approximately the same size as other handheld devices like the original Switch or Steam Deck. The bezel also appears smaller, which increases the screen real estate. A recent recent leak from accessory manufacturer Genki suggested the Switch 2 would be about one inch wider and a half-inch taller, with a 1-inch increase in screen size. While the side-by-side comparison on the official site may not be intended as an exact 1:1 representation, it looks like it would roughly fit those specs.

The trailer also made a point to show the larger screen when it popped out from the old Switch profile. Similarly, when the Joy-Cons transition from the old to new models, they look noticeably larger.

Nintendo is planning a Nintendo Direct presentation with more details on April 2, with in-person fan events to try out the system soon after. The debut trailer did confirm that Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch games, but not every game will be supported. And while the trailer was light on games, it did show what appears to be a new Mario Kart game. For more, check out everything we know about Switch 2 and all the rumored Switch 2 games.

Considering the first isn’t pocket friendly anyway, I think this is an ok move if it improves ergonomics and the potential to hold higher specs and longer battery life than the prior form factor

i think the thickness of the "switch 2" is x1.5 of the original "switch", while the height and width going to be near the wii u gamepad size - not counting where the sticks, dpad and the b, a, y, x buttons at on the wii u gamepad.
