Here's When System Shock Remastered's Kickstarter Begins

Crowdfunding begins from June 29.

The crowdfunding campaign for System Shock Remastered will begin June 29 on Kickstarter, developer Night Dive Studios has announced. The date was revealed in a Facebook video, which doesn't feature anything beyond the logo.

As detailed previously by Night Dive studio CEO Stephen Kick, the studio has acquired the full rights to the System Shock franchise and has been working with Robert Waters, the original concept artist, to reimagine his designs.

"Seeing the difference between his artistic abilities back then compared to now, and his ability to reinterpret those ideas, its just been really exciting for us," he said.

The first gameplay footage of System Shock Remastered was released on March 15.

Night Dive Studios is also working on the upcoming System Shock 3, a brand new entry in the series. Deus Ex creator Warren Spector has joined the team to work on System Shock 3.

Night Dive Studios has also published System Shock 2 on Steam, along with other classic games such as Sid Meier's Colonization, The 11th Hour, and The 7th Guest.

System Shock and its sequel was originally developed by Looking Glass Studios. Ken Levine, one of the key creatives behind the project, has since created the BioShock series, considered by fans as a spiritual successor to System Shock.

Love your Strife Veteran and System Shock Enhanced, would be very nice if you can bring new life for Necrodome, CyClones, ShadowCaster.

Tamoor only mentioning Levine as director. Wiki states that Spector was either a producer or a director on the first System Shock.

"Warren Spector, the director of the first System Shock, announced in February 2016 that he has joined OtherSide Entertainment and will be working on System Shock 3."

@Ripper_TV: Yeah, Warren Spector was one of the main men behind the original System Shock. Ken Levine was the dude behind System Shock 2, but I don't think he was involved (or maybe even AT Looking Glass) for SS1.

System Shock 2 is a masterpiece. I never played the first one because I could never get it to run, and the graphics were way outdated by that time.

@Thanatos2k: The Enhanced Edition on GoG runs on modern PCs, at a little bit better resolutions, and has more modern controls (like mouse look) enabled. Otherwise it's the original game. I think it's $10 if you get curious.

@Yams1980: They didn't remaster SS2, but they did get it working on modern hardware and operating systems for the Steam/GoG release.

Oh, they can't even actually afford to make the game. That doesn't bode well.

Crowdfunding is the absolute worst. When celebrities, movie studios, and game developers (all of which have made BIG bucks) started sticking out their hand to the common person and asking for cash to make something, crowdfunding officially died for me.

@Derekuda:I understand that feeling and I sometimes agree with it. One thing to keep in mind though is a lot of the big names from the old days who haven't done much in recent times may not have as much money as you think. The business of video games has grown so much, some of these veteran creators have probably made less money in their entire career than the key people behind more recent big games make on just a few titles.

I'm not saying that's the case here, I haven't done enough research, just wanted to make the general point that in an industry as young as video games some of those famous figures didn't make as much money as we might think.

It would really suck to tell the date in the headline, wouldn't it?
