Haley Joel Osment Wants To Play Link In The Zelda Movie

"Oh, my hat's in the ring, they know my hat's been in the ring."

Nintendo and Sony are teaming up to make a live-action Legend of Zelda movie, and actor Haley Joel Osment wants to be in it. In a new interview, Osment said he's been a fan of the series since he was a kid and is eager to put his hat in the ring to play Link. He joked that maybe he's now too old, at 37, to play Link, but you never know.

"Oh, my hat's in the ring, they know my hat's been in the ring," he told IGN. "Link was like 37 when he did all this, right!? Seventeen, 37? As a kid, I was like, 'Obviously they're gonna make [Ocarina of Time] a movie soon, the story's all written out for you!' And you're like, 'That'd be very challenging to make into a compelling two-hour movie.'"

Specifically, Osment said he wants to see Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask's lore be worked into the Zelda movie. He said, "Those are my original Star Wars [trilogy]."

The Zelda movie is in the works with Planet of the Apes and Maze Runner director Wes Ball attached. Spider-Man producer Avi Arad is producing the movie, which is a joint production between Nintendo and Sony Pictures--Nintendo is funding "more than 50%" of the film.

Casting announcements have not been made as of yet, but Euphoria's Hunter Schafer wants to play Zelda following a fan campaign.

Ball, the director, previously teased his vision for the Zelda movie. "I have this awesome idea," he said. "I've been thinking about it for a long freakin' time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be... I want to fulfill people's greatest desires. I know it's important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape."

In addition to the live-action Zelda movie, Nintendo is producing The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, and just recently, Toad voice actor Keegan-Michael Key made an exciting announcement about it.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but he would have to lose a significant amount of weight for the role. Link in all of his incarnations is either a petite kid or a physically fit adult.

@nintendians: If the actor and make-up team do a good job, it's not an impossible feat to fool the audience. I'd take Haley over a cliched choice like Tom Holland. So sick of seeing him in every movie.

@plurmp: i guess so as long as the actor make it feel like he's still in his 20's.

i prefer a fully 3d cgi instead of live action with 3d special effects and creatures like a lizalfos.
