Zombie VR Studios and ShadowCatcher Entertainment are teaming up to form a CGI (computer generated image) movie company and PC game, both called Liberty. Zombie, a game development company, and ShadowCatcher, an independent motive and TV production facility, assembled a product team that includes people who worked on Blade Runner and Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as The Stand. Both the movie and game will be DVD-ROM titles scheduled for release in the first quarter of 1999. The game will be an action-adventure title using Zombie's 3-D Viper engine.
The companies believe a good game can come from a movie if the story was designed from the beginning as both a film and a game. Keeping that in mind, they've created a story that started preproduction in May and are currently negotiating for distribution.
The storyline introduces Liberty Costikyan, a pioneer who left Earth and its tyrannical government to terraform Mars. The urge to exploit the resources of Mars proves too hard to resist, and the Martian settlers declare independence. Liberty leads the People's Army of Mars in an attempt to free Mars.
