Ghost Of Tsushima Passes 8 Million Sold

Sucker Punch's 2020 game continues to do big numbers, now reaching a new sales milestone.

Sucker Punch's 2020 action adventure game Ghost of Tsushima has passed a big sales milestone. The PS4 and PS5 game has now sold more than 8 million copies, Sony announced as part of its CES 2022 event this week.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has played since launch!," the studio said. "We are so incredibly appreciative and grateful for the support!"

Benji-Sales on Twitter added further context to Ghost of Tsushima's growth, reminding us that the game hit 2.4 million sold in three days, 4 million by November 2020, and 6.5 million by March 2021. It's now reached 8 million copies sold, which demonstrates ongoing strength for the PlayStation exclusive.

Given the big commercial success of Ghost of Tsushima, it seems like it will only be a matter of time before a sequel is announced. Whatever the case, Sony is extending the series with a movie from John Wick's Chad Stahelski.

The movie is coming from Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, the internal company that is charged with adapting Sony's video game franchises for TV and film. PlayStation Productions is also behind the Uncharted movie with Tom Holland and the Last of Us TV show with HBO.

Sucker Punch, the developer of Ghost of Tsushima, is an executive producer on the movie. It's still early days for the Ghost of Tsushima movie, and there is no word yet on the cast or when filming may begin. Similarly, the film has no release date yet.

Ghost of Tsushima the game expanded with a director's cut version in August 2021 with new features and content.

Im not into open world games much anymore but this game really did pull me in. I really enjoyed the writing and dialogue, along with the overall style the game has with its music, graphical style, etc.

Of course for me though I could only be tricked for so long and I realized I was doing the same old open world stuff lol. But its far far better than most ive played.

I was never into Samurai things but man is this game a blast! I played the PS5 version and beat the campaign and made it now to the Iki Island DLC. Amazing is the fact that depending on your game progress, the dialogues alter on the Iki DLC. When you go there before finishing the main quests, there is different dialogues then after you did beat the main quest.

Also, there are no stupid fetch quests, and 90% of the side quests are completely unique with a lot of great dialogue and go on up to 10 quests. Really good writing, really amazing voice acting. Also, there is no grind! Just play the quests, side quests and activities as you go, explore, and that alone grants you what you need to upgrade your weapons/armor etc. Also, upgrading is simple, I hate these games where you need to farm/grind and then resolve to youtube videos as how to craft etc. None of that here.

Also, the activities, although at times repetitive, are about exactly right in numbers.

The really one downside I think is the automated words of the Mongol archers, I mean, hearing each time "Osho, Osho!!!" before an archer fires an arrow, all game long, like 2-3x per each 5 seconds when you fight Mongols is downright a pain in the ass. They need to get rid of that or add more variation in words.

The game is a real blast tho, one of these games where it is worth buying a console just to play it.

Did I mention I am 70 hrs in (finished all main and subquests and 90% of activities) before reaching Iki Island ! Great investment !

@phili878: Glad to hear this. Good insight, because I'm looking for another PS5 game to play. So you've sold me on purchasing this game. Thanks!

@triggered-happy: you won't be disappointed man, I promise you that. If you love a long SP campaign with a great story and amazing voice acting, this is the game. If you looking for boring repetitive grinds etc to get a new weapon ornament, this is not for you.
