Gearbox asks what you want in your Homeworld Remastered Collector's Edition

Collector’s Edition could cost $75 or $100 depending on what size mothership you want.

No Caption Provided

Gearbox Software is asking fans which version of a physical Collector’s Edition of Homeworld Remastered Collection they would prefer.

The cheaper version costs $75 and comes with a six-inch die cast zinc alloy Mothership replica with brushed metal finish, stand included. The more expensive version costs $100, and comes with a 12-inch hand decorated, molded ABS resin Mothership with LED lights, stand and USB/AC power cable included.

Both versions of the Collector’s Edition will contain other memorabilia such as an art book, game manual (the original Homeworld was fantastic), key chain, and game codes. Gearbox says that the items included are not finalized, and that the number of Collector’s Editions will be very limited.

You can complete the survey on the game’s official website.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection will include the original Homeworld and Homeworld 2, updated with modern high-res textures and models, new graphical effects, and support for HD, UHD, and 4K resolutions.

Gearbox, which acquired the Homeworld license from the now defunct THQ, announced its plans to relaunch the games last year.

Wait, they expect to charge FULL price for a "remastered" edition of this?

Are they serious? There's a reason almost every single "HD/Remastered" edition is NOT full price, it's not like they are actually developing a new game,t hey are simply going back, adding HD textures and changing the UI to support higher res or such, that is not NEARLY as much work, time, nor money to do compared to a full fledged title, yet they want us to have to pay full price for this?

I loved Homeworld, and I'd probably buy this if it was like 15-19.99, but 60 bucks? No way, I will wait for a steam sale for that and just enjoy my original homeworld with fan mods.

If it helps, Rob Cunningham, the primary guy behind the series is now working with Gearbox for Homeworld Shipbreakers. I would've loved it if Relic got their hands on it again, but Gearbox millions of dollars for the IP and they're not about to give it away to Relic which is now owned by Sega.

I honestly thought it was another Borderlands game, Borderlands: Homeworld Edition. It would not be surprising at all coming from Gearbox.

I would pay 50$ for the boxed collector's edition without the resin model. Tho I still need to see some screens to see how much of a graphical improvement we're talking about.

I'll tell you what I'd really like to have. A remastered soundtrack. The original soundtrack for Homeworld is still one of the best I've ever heard in a game. Especially when considering when Homeworld came out, the typical musical scoring normally found in games. But while the quality of the scoring was amazing, the quality of the actual soundtracks were absolutely abysmal. Applied to the game with such a low bitrate that all you could hear was distortion and noise. Which was a real shame considering just how beautiful the music was. Especially Adagio for Strings and the theme for the Bintusi sequences. So yeah, definitely remaster the music and include the separate full remastered soundtrack for both homeworld games with our purchase. That would really make my day and secure my day one purchase.

It's funny, I have a friend who cries every time he here's Adagio for Strings. Any music so beautiful it can reduce a man to tears deserves more respect than the bitrate they used in the original Homeworld game.

Well as a video game collector the only thing i would want , would be a decent game case to put on my shelf. Hard plastic or metal. Cardboard foldouts would be about the worst.

Oh. But the point i tried to make, was that it's actually been a very longtime since last good Gearbox game.

How does the saying go? "You're only as good of a developer as your last delivered game." Gearbox's last games are DNF and ACM. So not going too strong as far as i'm concerned.

@quakke @koospetoors @HailHellfire You see that thing flying over your head? That's the point I made. He basically stated that the only good game Gearbox ever released was Borderlands, had to point out its pretty far from the truth actually.

@Megaliths I'm hoping it's included as well, but can't be sure it will. Cataclysm wasn't made by Epic. While Homeworld 1 and 2 were both made by epic and published by Sierra, Cataclysm was made by Barking Dog Studios and published by Sierra. Epic had nothing to do with Cataclysm. So who knows what happened with Cataclysm in the multiple IP shifts since inception.

@apocfallenlord @bignick217 @Megaliths Your right, my bad... So many similar names, people are bound to get them jumbled up occasionally. Yup, Relic, Homeworld, Company of Heroes, etc. Epic, Gears of War.

Thanks for the correction. That's what I get for writing too quickly.

Gearbox has repeatedly shown a propensity for two-dimensional thinking.

I remember reading the review on this and passing, though it does sound cool for people who like RTS or space-based games.

It's unfortunate that Gearbox somehow manages to get hold of really good IP's and then goes about systematically destroying them.

The Homeworld games were awesome back in the day and still are to some extent but all this crap piled on top of it I'm just not interested in.

Please stop catering for the collector types and fleecing the gamer who's only interested in the experience and not collecting Homeworld barbie dolls and Kens Speceship.

Well, since I already own all of the original ones, I'd say I want to buy just that same, re-polished game collection (if it's DRM free) for around 25 EUR tops and you can keep those gimmicks that will only end up collecting dust in a cabinet anyways.

I think this means I'll be waiting for the "normal" edition then.

@mikees1 I'm already looking in to how I can buy this now. I STILL play Homeworld on occasion and this would be one of, out of my 25+ years of gaming, the handful of "special edition" bundles I will own. These games are amazing.

Just because you personally don't know about/want something doesn't mean you speak for everyone. I'm a big fan of Brothers in Arms as well, but I'd much rather have this remastered Homeworld.

@mikees1 Not knowing what Homeworld is pretty much gives away the fact that you're probably like 12-15 years old. Trust me - there are PLENTY of people interested in this. Try looking up reviews for these games or looking at their sales figures. Just because this game doesn't center on BOOM EXPLOSIONS BAM BAM OOOH doesn't mean people aren't interested in it. How many brainless WWII FPS games do we need?

Brothers in Arms was one of the few GOOD and smart WWII FPS games, actually. That and the two Deadly Dozen games, the Commandos FPS and Sniper Elite.

I would add Hidden and Dangerous to that list, way better than the Commandos FPS which should've stayed isometric IMO. But I agree BiA is great.

@lonesamurai1 Yet your platform constantly gets passed over and gets scraps the console user base receives months sometimes years in advance.

Kickstarter is the product of the so called master-race's attempt to breath new life in original software to your gaming platform. Shall I point out the raise and fall of mmo's and the ever growing stale moba market to you? Maybe the ever growing trend of online petitions for console only games is just a fad to you? Pc gaming is slowly being fazed out who wants to develop a game that the masses of people want for three dollars I know I wouldn't.

So much hot air and empty claims with no facts to back them up it seems you have some insecurity issues about your platform of choice to make such baseless claims.

PC has more exclusives than both consoles combined, multiplats play and look better and Steam user numbers are growing larger and larger, bigger than XBL and PSN even, most played games on earth? PC exclusives, called LoL, WoW, StarCraft 2 etc.... At the end of the day I'll be playing this masterpiece of space RTS and you won't. Deal with it.
