Free PlayStation Plus Games For May 2017 Revealed On PS4/PS3/Vita

Thanks to Cross-Buy, PS4 owners will have four games to download for free.

Sony has announced the lineup of free games PlayStation Plus members will receive next month.

On PS4 in North America, Plus subscribers will be able to grab sea-exploration game Abzu, as well as Telltale's episodic Tales From the Borderlands. Those in Europe, meanwhile, will see Alienation in place of Abzu.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Free PS4/PS3/Vita PlayStation Plus Games For May 2017

Both of the month's Vita games, Laser Disco Defenders and Type:Rider, support Cross-Buy with PS4, providing owners of the home console with four freebies in total next month. Those on PS3 get just the usual allotment of two: Blood Knights and Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants.

All of these will be available for download beginning next Tuesday, May 2. You have until then to grab all of April's free games, which include Drawn to Death and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime.

Meh, I stopped paying for ps plus months ago. I just finished ryse on xbone and really enjoyed it. Now going to play the Star Wars game. Ms has my attention for months now. Better free games there. I use my PS4 pro for vr only these days. Or sim racing with t300rs

@akassassin11: I know. I buy all my games on PS4 and for free games I choose ms. Is just a better deal. I don't build a game library because I play trough everything only once. Then i remove it or sell it. I don't play online and Vr is awesome. Being a sim racing fan with good gear and vr is a blast. Just have to work on my motion sickness lol. Any way having both consoles gives you allot of freedom and exclusives you can choose from.

Noice!! I loved Dead Nation (those freaking cutters!) and now i'll get Alienation for free! Cool, looks like every once in a while there's actually something worth playing in the free games (aaah, transistor :) ). Not dissing Abzu here, but i'm glad it wasn't the other way around with America and Europe.

Tales from the borderlands is the only decent game up there but it's been on sale for like 4 dollars so many times anyone who wanted to play it probably already has. And abzu? More like abzulutely not worth playing free or not.

Abzu - Yet another of these games where the developer forgets they're making a GAME and sacrifices GAMEPLAY for the sake of "art"

Alienation - Damn, I think Europe might actually have something here.

Laser Disco Defenders - Good idea, poor execution. Gets repetitive and old very quick

Tales From the Borderlands - It's a visual novel.

Type:Rider - Should have stayed on mobile. There are better platformers out there and this is meant to be an alternate way to learn about the history of fonts than a proper game.

Blood Knights and Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants - lol

Another month of shovelware. Xbox has been giving away some quality stuff recently, it's surprising Sony isn't doing the same. Although, Xbox hasn't been doing as well, so that's probably it.

Good! I like these choices! Tabletop Racing disappointed me (not bad... but could have been better), and a few other choices, but this selection seems good! I'd rather have visual novels than online games that might close within a year (I wonder how much time Drawn to Death has, like Dead Star, that ended up, you know, DEAD).

It's true LBP3 and Terra... way? Were good choices, wanted to try them, but got 'em for PS+. Sweet! over $400 of good games for a $70 subscription seems nice so far. Titan Souls interested me as well. Dang, my backlog is getting big!

Also folks, remember to claim the games on the PS store site in general. Even if Vita games are PS4 compatible, they won't be visible on the PS4 store. I almost missed a few Vita games like this.

I hope they eventually add some rarer games too. Gravity Rush Remastered is tough to find at a reasonable price these days.

I just bought Abzu for my daughter last month...

That's the downside of Free PS Plus games...

I'm now almost worried whenever I buy a budget game that it might goes free the next month...

I always buy the games I think that are cheap physically to get rid of later if they end up being on ps+

I prefer to buy AAA games physical, this way I can get a big trade-in value once finished...

I didn't see the point in buying cheap games physical as their trade-in value would be next to nothing.
(They usually give like 3~4$ for 20$ games you bring back.)

Plus, we often switch from one game to another among these cheap games so I'd rather have them digital to get to switch on the fly instead of having to pop different game discs in every time...

Ugh "tales from the" crypt, putting those pseudo games into PS Plus freebies should be ridiculed.

Episodic linearity has no place in games, surely they can just make them mobile games to leech off of a bigger pool of undiscerning consumer whores.

@akassassin11: Yes I have, and I found reading a book or virtually any other form of storytelling to be vastly superior to a weird form of "interactive" linear storytelling that masquerades as a video game.
